exportgoldman: I moved to 2 Degree's prepay for my iPhone last week, and have just put a VOIP client on my iPhone, so I'm paying $20/month to 2 Degree's for 1GB of data and 500 TXT and then $7.95 to WorldxChange and I have a landline number with free local calling on my mobile all throughout Auckland.

$27.95 for iPhone data and free unlimited landline calling. Now NZ is starting to get competitive. :-)

Dont encourage me!!!  How is the quality of the VFX over mobile data??

I've only had it setup for a few days, but the call quality has been fine - I purchased the G729a codec which handles jitter better and is a higher quality codec with a lower bitrate.

Tyler - Parnell Geek - iPhone 3G - Lenovo X301 - Kaseya - Great Western Steak House, these are some of my favourite things.

kiwijunglist: This is pretty cool, almost no need for a home phone and home broadband if you are a light internet user. You could just do wifi hotspot on an android phone. It would be cool if there was an app for android that automatically enabled wifi hotspot when these conditions are met.

1. Your phone detects it's location is at your house.
eg. through cellphone tower AGPS, or GPS or detecting your home wifi
2. It is plugged into a power source

$25 for 2GB/month "naked dsl" + being able to use the data on your phone when your out and about

You can do exactly this with Android 2.2 and Tasker... You would have to use cell ID as the location criteria, but if you combine that with the condition that it is plugged into the power, it would be pretty foolproof.

Cool, would tasker turn it off again, when you unplugged the power?

Yes, if you wanted it to. Or on some other event like leaving the cell covering your home.

VOIP is not allowed in the 2degrees Terms of use - if you want it to stay and the rest of us who use VOIP to stay, please don't talk about it.

But what if you're using one of their 3g sticks as your only internet connection at home? You're not allowed to use skype/teamchat/voip in games, etc?

Where does it say that?  All I see is "We may restrict or prevent the use of voice over internet protocol (“VOIP”) or message over internet protocol (“MOIP”) communications on the 2degrees Network."  Doesn't say you can't use it at all.  I would say they won't bother to restrict it until it starts making a difference to them, and talking about it or not won't make any difference.
