Now I know you're just trolling, FF has multiple press releases on the subject.

Trolling - no.

I was simply sharing my personal experience with the issue.  But thanks for the link.  I see google finds a few links quite quickly.

The first one I got was:
Farmside Rural Broadband
New Zealands leading provider of high speed satellite broadband

--
I won't tell you how unpolite people seem to be about IPStar.

My experience so far has been that everyone got all excited about it, but once it's actually there, I keep hearing people just whinging about it.

The vendor spin must have been amazing.  But now we seem to be back to more people claiming there's issues.

But again, thanks... might run my eye over those press releases and see what they're saying now because I confess I'm not up with that.

Personally I'm a bit focused on just trying to get a silly little suburb just out of Wellington fast enough bb so people can use HD Skype...  a feet that I'm starting to wonder if it might be impossible.

johnr: I use to hear that line all the time. My property is worth $X amount dollars so why don't you provide me with perfect mobile coverage.

But don't you dare stick an ugly cancer causing cell tower on/close to their property!

(I hate these people)

I too have a 8150 Ideos, i had trouble with mine roaming at Lake Hood near Ashburton, it roamed ok once out of Christchurch but lost service at Lake Hood and never regained it, i only realised something was wrong when we got back to Ashburton and still had no service.
It took a restart for it to work again, it has done it twice now once it has lost service it will not always regain it without a restart, it makes me not trust it when driving out of town you never know if it has regained service without looking at the phone.

Cool... so I'm not alone and I'm not going bonkers!

(that last one might be subjective)

Ironclad I had to do a network search before it would find the networks again then manually set it, then sent it back to auto. Didn't have to reboot.

i tried manually searching when we were in Ashburton and it still found nothing until i did a restart and as you know that is not a quick process with the Ideos.

Depending on your car, the time of day and wind direction, you can drive back to Chch from Ab in less time than an 8150 seems to take to reboot!

Still having trouble with google maps trying to work out the long and lat...

Hi Don,

Sorry to join in on this conversation a bit late but looking at our coverage map I can see you're right on the edge of our canopy there and it might be getting a little confused.   I'd suggest manually selecting Voda's network when you're there and switching back to automatic search when you're closer into Chch towards Leadleys Road where the 2D signal is stronger.

Hope this helps.

sbiddle: I'm not quite sure why you'd blame the phone, clearly the issue is that 2degrees simply don't have coverage there. If there was coverage in the past you should log a job with them as something like network optimisation has probably resulted in a changed coverage footprint.

Careful... smartphones are notorious for also being deaf. Shoehorning all those technologies and antenna's in there (4 band WCDMA, 5 band GSM, wifi, bluetooth, gps) is one heck of a trick, and I've yet to find one that is as good as a purpose built phone. S45 Nokia's and Motorola's still have amazing radio in my view, compared with those general purpose chips.

Everyone here just 'knows' what I'm going to say, so I'll just say "Thanks :) I can do that".

Thanks, you've got to appreciate we should never assume. :)

I'll pass this onto our RF team to look into this.

Can you PM me an alternative contact number in case we need to call you back.

Cheers

Sure if you need to call me you can use the mobile number provided (as long as I'm not at the farm clearly) or 03 348 7235 (which is published in the whitepages and our web site, so I see no issue putting in on GZ).

Email is much quicker: don@bowenvale.co.nz  (goes to Gmail and pushes to my phone, one feature I like so much I have actually trippled my data allowance spend to the 1GB plan!)

However, how about just reporting back to the list.  I'm sure many people here would be very interested to hear what can be cone about this so I don't have to manually change things on my phone and how quickly your team are able to come up with a more sensible technical solution that doesn't involve me having to remember to reprogram the settings on my phone every time I pop 5 minutes out of town.
