The silly thing is that having a cell site closer to you makes your phone work less therefore emitting less than if it was miles away from a cell tower. Therefore making it a good thing.

If you are still worried about the tower emissions, then you better go turn off all your appliances as even a hot stove element emits radiation (and not just infrared), oh yeah and don't use coal as many will know coal power plants take years to decontaminate after they are closed down due to radiation.
I could go on........

It works less hard for your phone, but it's transmitting 24/7, maybe on full power to support someone who's a long way away from the base station.

But your personal phone is on 24/7 (unless you switch it off at night for example) and you keep it right next to your head (when you're talking on it) or your crown jewels (if you keep it in your trousers) and it's talking back to the cellsite so it knows you're still on the network every few mins even if you're not talking on it.

A very interesting paper on the phone side of things (which everyone seems to forget about when complaining about Cell towers)

I turn my cell off at night, and I keep it away from me when I can, eg on my desk not in my pocket. I keep it in my back pocket. It probably makes no difference, but it doesn't hurt either.

Remember i'm still playing devils advocate at least a little.

Well, from what I know of complaints about people getting messages in the middle of the night, you're unique in New Zealand!

The article says the residents can challenge the decision in the high court. Would they win or lose this challenge? The article also says residents are telling other residents about it, so I wonder what they are saying? The cell tower is bad for your health? Don't think they can prove that.

If 2degrees is on here I hope you erect those towers as soon as possible. When will the towers be finished?

Well, this - fighting for permission - is generally the slow bit.

Telecom put up a tower behind shops matua in Tauranga residents were pissed off but could do nothing. Tower already had consent. Opposition seemed to die down quite quick anyway. It is an affluent part of town, seems they like great reception with Telecom. Unlike Vodafone who have low to no service in the same spot.

Sure, but it also says they're considering court action.

I never wanted to be like everyone else! When i'm sleeping the most important thing to me is that I keep sleeping. I don't have a home phone either. Just the way I like it :)

I still think we should donate tin hats to those people. Perhaps if they come to realize that they have become icons to laugh at they might relent.

The simple truth is it has to go somewhere, from the reports i read it seems 2degrees chose its locations intelligently. It's not in a densely populated zone, on railroad tracks.

Someone should run a doco on TV here showing off the no-harm side of the cell phone tower arguments. People seem to fixate on fear-moungerers (like that planetary alignment = doom bugger).
