I'm in Mosgiel as well, and when on the 2Degrees network I am usually only getting the EDGE network. I haven't used the phone (also an IDEOS X5) for calls yet whilst on the 2Degrees network so I can't remark on call quality.

Areas that don't get adequate 3G service won't be included in the official Broadband Zone map when it's finalised. Technically the broadband packs will still work on 2degrees EDGE coverage but it's not so useful. :-)

So the tower at location 'A' in the above Google Maps link is currently the only 2Degrees tower in Mosgiel? Except for the Dunedin Airport tower of course.

From a 2Degrees perspective, is this tower destined to cover the whole of urban Mosgiel (i.e. the immediate residential area)?

remember the network is still being optimised, this is affect the coverage you get.

As well as optimising the 2degrees network itself, you will often find sources of interferance from legal or illegal repeaters that you can't test for before deploying a site. these could be anywhere and are therefore hard to track down and get adjusted or turned off.

Yay - Cell tower outside Mornington BP has sprung up and gone live yesterday.
Boo - Signal drops in & out all over the place at my house now. Calls cutting out all over the place.
Hopefully this optimization is quick.

I imagine the full install will be mostly complete by the time the Students are back in town in Feb.

There is definitely a Telecom cell tower right beside the phone exchange behind mitre 10. Is that the one you are talking about, or is it more towards the RSA building?

Found this thread while searching for info on this subject. I'd hate to get directions off you guys in Mosgiel :-). From starting out at "pooh Corner" we have nearly got to the exact location of the tower. It is in the carpark out back of the Vodafone shop on Gordon road on the little access road that runs from the phone exchange/Mitre10 to the RSA. About the middle of the road. I walk my dog up there every day and have watched it go up and wondering when it was going live.

I'm getting 3G coverage sometimes over Xmas and other times not. My phone is old and crappy (Sony M600i) and not that reliable but have just gotten a new Motorolla android so am looking foward to firing it up and seeing what sort of reception I get now.

Does anyone know what happened to Basil North out here ? I went in to get some telecom stuff and lo and behold it had morphed into a Voda shop. That was a bummer as it meant a trip to town. Basil had been here forever and then one day gone. They were a great wee shop. Ah well progress I suppose. At least we got a shiney new tower out of it LOL.

Might pop into the shop this week and ask if they actually know anything concrete about dates etc.

Yeah I live about a block from there and have had constant 3g,.full signal since it launched. just about finished my first 3gb pack

Thanks for that. I thought the staff were diffeent too but obviously am wrong. I'm around in Doon Street and my 3G is patchy

I have an android phone, and notice that it is going in and out of roaming between the 2Degrees network and the Vodafone piggy back. Is there anyway of forcing it to stay on the 2Degrees network?

I can usually select the 2Degrees network manually, but after a few minutes it just goes back to roaming on VF. I have about -90 ~ -95 dBm signal strength, which is about the same strength I get when roaming on VF. Is it my phone kicking me back to VF, or is it the 2Degrees tower kicking me off during the Dunedin tweaking phase?
