If I was Snap and I had customers complaining to me, I would be passing those concerns on to YouTube.  I asked Snap if they would and got this reply

In regards feedback to YouTube/Google and their services, we do escalate these types of issues to our Network Operations Team, whom, are aware of any feedback Snap receives regarding performance issues.

When there know/proven faults, they get escalated and channelled through to the given provider.

GeoffisPure:
So my question is now...  do people with the All You Can Eat package use the CDN server too?  Or if I drop the AYCE package might my YouTube experience improve?

I think everyone is missing the point, we just seem to be going around in circles.

A few things:

- Disabling the AYCE Package wont have any effect as its purely accounting. Selection of CDN server is sorted by DNS.
- The Cache is owned and operated by Google. They fact that it is sitting in Snap's network is just a plus.
- Youtube will only download the video at the speed that it requires instead of bursting to 20Mbit and finishing the 5 minute long video in a matter of seconds it will download at say 10mbit. What this basically means is that you can serve twice the users on half the bandwidth, because seriously why waste the bandwidth if you don't need to?
- This is a very isolated issue, I've never had any issues on either of my multiple Snap Connections as well as my friends who are on Snap also. I'd stress that it is something else effecting it as it is isolated and most are having no issues. I'd suggest you look at other factors as I do not believe it is something to do with the physical cache itself.

My 2c.

Well, thanks for your 2 cents but I have a few of my own

- Regardless of who owns the server, the fact is that in the past two weeks only, I can not view YouTube videos without buffering, even on the lowest quality setting
- This problem does not occur with other ISPs
- Whether it's isolated is questionable, as at least 3 people in this thread are complaining and you are the first to indicate you're not having problems.
- You say YouTube will only download at the speed required. If this means slower than can be watched at 360p, this is simply unacceptable. In the past videos have downloaded much faster than can be watched.

Anyway, Ralph has been in touch so I hope to sort this out with him/her.

Just thought I'd mention that things seem to be a lot better lately.

Hi, I joined Snap last week and my youtube speeds are really slow. My girlfriend watches a large amount of you tube to watch videos from her country which is why we switched to Snap with the $2.00 add on.

Last night and for the last few days we have had videos buffering while watching at 240p which is much worse than when we were with Telecom.

Is this because we have the add on as the rest of the internet seems fast enough??

Anyway modem settings are:

ADSL

Type Interleave Path

Status  SHOWTIME

Data rate(Kbps)

Downstream             16569          Upstream   1272

Noise Margin                12                                12

Output power(dBm)  10                                4

Attenuation(dB)         125                              190

Does this look O.K, I'm not a techie by any means :) And I'm in Warkworth if that makes any difference.

as i keep saying and always get corrected that the google cache machine is in the datacenter or snap and should preform a hell of alot better.

telecom xt on my android is 3 times as fast

people in this forum seem to think that the cache machine is restricted by google as far as content downloading goes...

this cache should act like its right next to me, lightning fast but no.

*facedesk*

You guys are clearly missing the point.

Here is my straight up answer:

There is nothing wrong with the cache. Clearly there are other outside factors influencing the 'slow' youtube.

Yea cache is working fine, but getting the content that's not on the cache is slow.

Content coming from cache i avg 2MB/s
Content coming from overseas 200-400KB/s
