Sounddude: Hi Guys
The issue where calls wouldn't go to voicemail when genius was not connected anymore...has been resolved.
However it can take upto 15 minutes for the Voice system to detect the modem is down.
Enjoy

ronw: Thank you much appreciated. I will test it when I get a chance. Does that mean that you have also fixed the message that callers get so that they do not get Sorry that phone does not exist

SerjTank: Digging up an old thread here for two reasons.
1) my parents have just switched to an Orcon Genius1300 setup, and want to be able to use their phone in the event of a power outage. There appears to be a USB connection and slot where a battery should go, but it is not provided. Short of getting a UPS, what other options are there?
2) Orcon doesn't appear to be providing the said batteries with their Genius units. This means that in the event of a power outage e.g. earthquake, that no one with this setup will be able to make landline based calls. Doesn't this ring alarm bells for anyone, especially in light of Christchurch?

If youre looking at what I just looked at on the bottom of the Genius, thats a slot for a 3G device, not a battery. (Mine says "3G" on it with a USB logo)
During a major earthquake like Chch had, phone lines were not exactly reliable at the time, so I wouldnt even look at my landline if such a quake hit me.
Id be pulling out my UHF radios and relying on them more ;)
BTW, if their Genius is on the firmware release 1300, might want to see Orcon about pushing out an upgrade - latest is 1415
SerjTank:
Ah, you're right. It's a 3G device, not a battery. So then, it seems a UPS is the only option?
Re: firmware.. I think the 14xx firmware updates add support for UFB which is not currently available in the area, or am I mistaken again?
