Snackos: Sounds awesome for me. Currently I pay $105 for 60 gigs, but on the new plan I get 200gigs for $99.

I presume orcon auto-changes us to the new plans, or do we need to contact them and do it ourselves?

You will need to contact the Helpdesk on 0800 13 14 15 or via our website here: https://www.orcon.net.nz/support/request

wait, what?

you mean you aren't migrating customers over to the new plans?   that's pretty poor.

As both the pricing AND content of the plans are changing, it would not be right for us to automatically switch customers over as it may not suit certain customer's particular situation (in fact it's not actually legal for us to do so anyway).

Yo, I was psyched to join Orcon's new Genius plan.
But I called this morning and can't get it at my place, so I'm forced to sign up to a horrifically priced plan (by comparison):

non-Genius plan: 55GB for $140 vs: Genius plan: 200GB for $99

Oh Jeez. it's 2007 again!

why do non-Genius plans not cost the same or slightly similar?
50% more dollars for a quarter of the data

how long will it take for the Airdale St exchange to be genius-ready? :(

So we can just email the helpdesk saying we went to move to such and such plan and they will take care of the rest?

Bameron: Is the Genius coverage area expanding with fibre? Any chance of Blenheim being able to get it come July?

We'll be reviewing the pricing on our standard, non-Genius plans next however there is currently no ETA.

I got an email from Orcon giving me this address to change plans after asking about no Genius users http://www.orcon.net.nz/external/changeplan/index.php

Tried it can't log in . Have to call cust services.

I'm suspecting Orcon don't come up with something soon for non Genius people then there will be a mass migration to Telecom. I've been with Orcon since about Jan 2002 and have had good service from them in general..

old3eyes, there totally will be... those non-genius plans can't compete with Telecoms new plans.

Yeah, sorry Orcon, but take notice - if I don't see an updated plan in three months, I'm moving. This is the third time plans have changed for Genius customers and non-Genius customers being told to suck it. I've had it with being considered some sort of inferior species.

right,  and since the guy quoted above is currently paying $105 for 60GB and the new plan is $99 for 200GB (i.e. it is cheaper AND has more data) , then there is no possible way his existing plan 'suits his particular situation' better.

Your statment that it is illegal to migrate him to this obviously better plan is clearly incorrect since many telcos do automatically migrate customers to new plans when they launch.

Like I said, we can't automatically migrate everybody on to the new plan based on the fact that it is not suitable for everyone. Just because this particular case (and I'm sure there are others) suggests that the new plan would be better, it does not give us license to interfere with everybody's plans.

If the new plans had simply been a plan upgrade and not a change in pricing (i.e. increasing their data allowance, calling add-ons etc at no charge) then obviously that is something we can do automatically. It is a different matter when the pricing of the services change as well.

Thanks for that link. Worked fine for me and I changed to 200gigs and saved 6 dollars in the process starting the end of next month.

Would have been nice for orcon to do it for me, but perhaps a mailout to existing genius customers with that link would do the trick.

Now I think orcon need to address the non-genius plans because Telecom are being really aggressive in this area. My father has jumped from 5 gigs to 10 gigs, and then 10 gigs to 30 gigs at no extra cost in the last year with Telecom.
