Either way I was a prepaid customer paying about $10 a month. Now I have a contract and paying $89 a month.

Who now has a $1049 handset for free and after spending $534 (6 months x 89) can drop their plan down to a $39 plan and pay a minimal plan change charge.

Seems bit of financial screw up by 2degrees unless they are getting the phones ultra cheap and happy to get the business and customers rather than than sole focus on profit.

Don't forget that we are with them for 24 months (firstly) and they have a huge number of clients switching from other providers (secondly) and also not everybody knows about this 6 months switch back thing. So some will pay $89 for 2 years.

Yup.. true that.. Had I not read through this thread.. I wouldnt know as well..

We need to remind ourselves that some of the features of this deal don't make a difference to a lot of people, the free bus passes for example will be very handy for Wellingtonians, some won't have coverage for the free weekend 1 GB.

Despite all that, and even without thinking about the weekend bonus stuff or the huge amount of minutes you will end up with at the end of the 6 evil months, it's still a pretty good deal and you will get a lot of value out of it.

So the total cost to subscribe to the free SGS3 offer, and then downgrade to the $39/month plan after six months within the 24 month term contract would be: (6x$89)+(18*$39)+110=$1346?

Note the downgrade fee is the $110 in the calculation above.

That's true, I thought I will pay that too, but after reading the T's and C's again, I found out that it doesn't apply after the first 6 months.

For me, as I was already on a $39 plan with no term, I guess my total is $300 for the phone, free weekend bus passes, weekend free 1GB, and about 2000 minutes that you end up with after the first 6 months

I didn't want to relist all the benefits of the deal, I will sound like I'm trying to sell it lol and I will be repeating myself anyway as I have done that already. I guess I'm just proud of my bargaining skills, or should I should call it genes (we inherit those in Egypt since my great grandfather got himself a great pyramid for really cheap lol)

My only concern would be that the T&C could be varied subsequent to entering into the contract by prior to cancelling after six months, forcing some sort of fee to be paid. I guess that's the risk that you bear if you want to get the phone using this deal.

You only agreed and signed on the current version. I don't think that legally if they change it, the changes applies to you unless you resign again.

That's why when a decent company or firm changes their policies, they get you to click on "I've read and agree bla bla bla" again (like google)

You're right. To qualify that though, it depends upon any disclaimer contained on within the T&C.

I remember reading both the SGS3 special T&C as well as the PayMonthly T&C, and in the latter was a disclaimer that they could change "benefits" at any time, which could include the charges associated with changing plans. There could well have been more that I missed.

Yes call me paranoid, but these things have sometimes go very wrong.

There is something about big companies, they want their reputation to be always good, once they do something mean, an army of raged customer like you and me might decide to take it to court or dispute tribunal.

When this happens, most companies try to handle press to keep it under the shade, then try to negotiate with raged customers in secret while offer something nice for other customers to make them happy and prevent them from supporting the raged ones (a nice legal bribe) and if this fails, they will negotiate with the raged customers in public and give very political diplomatic announcements to the press.

My point is, even if they legally can, they won't do anything to upset any more than 1% of their customers.
