tritex: They don't offer "Wiring Maintenance Insurance" like the other Telcos do. That is annoying and a bit risky considering everytime i move i seem to need a new socket or wiring for normal broadband performance which TCL have so far always done for no extra charge other than the move fee / wiring maintenance fee.

ADSL2 with TCL consistently gives me above 10Mbps and generally 15 - 17MBPS. I find it unlikely a discount company could meet that?... Anyone joined and found the speed is the same as the others? I know when my neighbour was with Slingshot it was the most shocking speeds she had ever received (worse than ADSL1)

It does work out about $50.00 per month cheaper for me though so i hope to await some feedback from oithers.

$50 a month cheaper? What plan are you on right now?

I don't work for flip but you might find that W&M is included as part of the rental not sure though.
NOTE: Chours W&M support contact only supports Voice side of the network does not cover ADSL issues however every ISP seems to be absorbing the cost anyway.

You would be surprised should be able to offer the same sort of speeds considering that data usage is not expected to be high less then 10gig per month usage is generally low so speeds can be high.

Hey guys,

We don't offer wiring and maintenance as we found most people don't need it.

Regarding speeds, we're the same if not better. We've got a brand new network with our own core etc.

I'm getting close to line rate at the moment.

Also, if you're concerned about our data packs - we're about to launch a new one. 40GB for $25, doesnt expire for 12 months either.

When you swap to Flip your ADSL still comes from the same place. And like Scott says, you could even have better throughput depending on who Flip use upstream of them. TCL have been suffering from low international throughput for a while now due to having such a massive customer base (dont know if it has been rectified though....).

Is anyone using this service and how have they found it? I am considering moving to flip but don't want to go through the hassle if the actual service is poor.

What does Wiring Maintenance cover?

This optional service covers the cost of on-site repairs to faulty Telecom compliant internal wiring and sockets for voice and some broadband services in your home, including:
Interference on your phone line or the line not working.
Broadband faults such as frequent disconnections to the broadband service or a loss of broadband connection.
Internal wall wiring including copper wiring (BT), Ethernet cabling (Cat6 and Cat5) and RJ45 sockets.
If after install a splitter becomes faulty the cost of repair or replacement will be covered.

Here's a review on how I’ve found Flip :)

My Flip was connected yesterday, I switched from TCL.
Broadband speeds appear slightly better than my old ISP but obviously there’s lower traffic on the Flip network as they are new.

Speed Test Results:

Download: Between 11 - 16MBPS (averaging 14MBPS)
Upload: Generally constant at 0.86MBPS

Flip was very helpful with the setup and even arranged for the install to be done 4 days earlier so I didn't have to pay a new month to my existing ISP. They always replied to emails on the same day which has signalled good customer service.

However on the actual install date I lost my telephone dial tone and broadband around 11am and by 6.30pm there was still no dial tone or broadband. I phoned Flip Support who force started the broadband and phone. However Outbound calling and broadband then worked but inbound calling didn't work at all until it was sorted the following day following a subsequent phone call and a wait of approximately 4 hours for a technician to repair whatever they hadn't done right yesterday.

Flip called back to confirm it was working and followed it up with an email which is impressive.
The hold time can be a bit long on the 0800 support line depending on the time of day I’ve noticed up to 15 minutes.

Technically however I have noticed a lot of difficulties with the quality of calls since it was switched over, voices sound really "tinny" and the person at the other end hears themselves in an echo which happens no matter who is calling my number. Apparently the echo is loud and annoying. Even the dial tone sounds a bit different and echoes.

At least six times so far I’ve picked up the phone only to find no dial tone or the disconnected tone and have had to wait around 20 seconds and try again to get the dial tone. The quality of the calls and sometimes not receiving a dial tone is concerning, I have raised this issue with Flip and I am advised it usually will resolve in a couple days and if it doesn't they will escalate this further.

I do really hope Flip can iron out these phone line technical difficulties as soon as possible as they are a hindrance to the service, other than that I would recommend Flip in all other ways.

I have an elderly customer who joined up with Flip early last week. She has now since requested that her phone service be returned to telecom. This is due to the call quality, very bad echo and tinny sound plus her BB constantly drops off. When she called the call centre, she found there was a very long wait and when she actually got someone, she had difficulty understanding them. I can confirm the bad quality voice calls but not the rest as this is just her impression as reported to me. Perhaps, it is not for everybody but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for and others may not have this sort of expereince.

No not a naked broadband solution.

It's standard homeline plus broadband.
