Flip was $59 unlimited because they are UCLL from the exchange (which also means you are not necessary be connected to your closest cabinet - to add to this the poor upload could be the DSLAM in the exchange faulty (if its not a chorus one)

Downstream att 4.6dB, so the cabinet is <500m away? but only 16Mb/s. so still not right, you should get back to your 23Mb/s

Yeah, still some wiring issues. Replacing the jack, possibly with a double jack, would be a good start. Ideally a master splitter so the modem only sees one line straight to the exchange; everything else is through a filter.

The cabinet is very close, just across the road. I know I used to get about 26-28Mb/s sometimes more. That was a few years ago though, this is the first time I have had issues in forever.

Non issue, don't worry about it.

Found another filter, slightly better results of 120 but still terrible

Can you confirm if you have tried more than one filter or not - there seems to be some confusion.

Local sparky/comms guy or if super confident. DIY

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MODDNX001/Dynamix-XDSL-MASTER-XDSL-Master-Wired-in-filter-AD?qr=country-selector

Needs to fit in the outside box, or the first internal outlet after it. Phone pair goes to rest of house, dsl pair goes to a 2nd outlet directly over Cat5 or similar for the modem only. Bypassing all the others.

Sorry Running Man, Yes I tried another filter and originally only got that 120. Now though it is working much better but not as great as in the past. I tried using the double adapter thing, with the modem connected to it and then the phone line connected to the filter and the filter into the double adapter. So the modem line was not going through the filter.

It works best and runs best with the modem directly into the phone jack point on the wall and the phone not connected at all.

This is the latest I got with the modem alone connected into the wall jack point.

If you want to stay on DSL, and you're not sure how to fix your internal wiring, either speak to your RSP or an electrician who can do phone jackpoints and wiring etc.

Get a master filter and a dedicated jack for your modem, reflections on the line are killing it

ADSL2+ can't go faster than this, to go faster, get your wiring sorted and master filter + ring slingshot, you don't ask you don't get.

If it's working OK with both the filters, but dies with the phone connected, it may be the phone that has gone faulty. You've narrowed down the problem very well to something to do with what you are plugging into that jack - just go through making one change at a time until you can reproduce the problem reliably.

There will always be a small amount of fluctuation in the DSL sync rates each time the modem reconnects - you are looking for major changes, like that upstream rate dropping from about 1000 down to about 100.

Normally I'd recommend exactly this, but both up and downstream are very close to the maximum possible rate. The $250 or so to get someone in to install isn't likely to be good value for money, as the speed improvement will be almost unnoticeable.
