Just on the note of 3G... The EDGE network 2degrees has is very fast, in some cases from what I remember its up there with Vodafone's 3G...

Which brings me back to a question I asked earlier on with a slite variation.

If I put my 2D SIM into a Telecom or Vodafone data stick will it work on this plan.??

If you're able to get the data stick to work at all, then yes. Generally speaking Telecom ones work without much effort, whereas a lot of Vodafone branded ones will tell you you're being naughty by not using a Vodafone SIM in them.

Knew I shouldn't of topped up my Telecom mobile this morning. 50mb of data would be ideal for me, as all I use it for is checking email. I may even ditch Vodafone as well and go to 2D full time.

I have tried a T-stick from the $30 deal if you have a home phone with Telecom. All you need to do is change the SIM over then plug it in and click connect

Oh, for anyone pointing out that vodafone's 100MB data packs are better. Consider:

If you buy 2*$6 50MB packs, you pay $12. $2 more than vodafone.
But, if you send 19 txts on 2d's (at 9c. 20c-9=11. 11*19=$2.09) you've now broken even.
Same as if you make 4-5 minutes worth of voice calls. (Saving 44c a minute on 2ds vs 89c on vodafone)

So if you're a real casual txter/talker and send at least 1txt a day or so and use data, you're better off with 2ds..

or look @ this... topup $20 and get 200 texts FREE... That is $24-$40 (depending on PP plan) worth of value on VF if you DON'T have a plan.

Sorry but I'm getting sick of people who can't understand the market this is aimed at and do not consider all the offerings.

im paying $80 a month on my iphone plan now and could switch to 2D and spend $20 a month for calls, get 200 texts and another $6 a month for internet. saving me $54 a month....

wow thats quite a bit really... only 2 months to go until my contract runs out :) (not worth cancelling it now).

be nice if you could get best mates or something similar on 2D.

Better handsets won't come until they have on-account contracts. There has to be some way for the carrier to claw back the handset subsidy, as they can't possibly do it on a transient prepay customer-base.

I prefer the no-handset/no-contract model anyway. The real costs of calling/texting/data are more transparent plus you have the freedom (in the age of number portability) to jump to other providers should something compelling tempt you.

I much prefer that if they are not going to be heavily subsidized on a contract that the telcos dont supply the hardware. there are plenty of retailers selling imported unlocked phones to choose from, usually a lot faster than the other 2 telcos manage to get them and at better prices.

I would hardly say that NZ mobiles are heavily subsidized compared to the US model.
