We about to see a large supply of cheap 2nd hand data sticks, once you use up your data allowence those data sticks will probably sell for around $50

$99 outright - $50 2GB data = data stick $49.

So in theory if you can sell your 2nd hand data stick for more than $49 you'll end up ahead.

I think it's clear that its on the sim and that it can't be 'shared'. Cool idea though.

Why not just get bluetooth? DealeXtreem has dongles for $2

To be honest I was a little bit disappointed. If the 10GB had come with a 1 year expiry I would have been in like a shot and got rid of our ADSL (we use ~1GB per month).

Im a little underwhelmed too.

A week ago I was asked why I would consider signing up to a contract with VF when 2D were going to launch 3G. Experience told me we wouldnt see huge price cuts but that they would sit just under the competition still giving them the claim to have the cheapest deals around.

So here we are with the launch and on 2D you can effectively have 1Gb a month for $25. I add 500 texts at $10 and Im now paying $35 a month.

Contrast to VF where for $40 I can have 30 mins, 300 texts, 3Gb data and 1000 pxts with a half decent subsidy on the phone (depending on the phone and your definition of half decent :)) and it looks like I was right.

Another player in the market yes, but certainly not the earth shatteringly low prices people keep expecting from having competition.

The pricing announced today is competitive, but really not as innovative as I'd hoped for.

Data was always going to have to be cheaper than the other two networks for a couple of reasons.

2Degrees can't offer nationwide coverage. This is already creating quite a bit of confusion on Twitter, as the masses get their heads around broad band zones.

once Vodafone completes its HSPA upgrade, 2Degrees will have the slowest 3G option for the next couple of years out of the three networks.

Being able to buy larger amounts of data to be used over a 60 day period is nice, but I'd like to have seen more innovation. Maybe a data pack where you could invest a large amount and have a year to use it.

Most of us have a smartphone and some other device. There's a real need for data options that can be shared between two sims.

For now, I still think Telecom is offering the best options for data. You can set it and forget it, no need to buy bundles. If you're the kind of person who uses it heavily when you travel, but not at all when you don't, you can pay $0 during the months when you're not on the move, or out of the country. The 10C per MB with a cap at whatever price point you set is a great feature, but of course if you know you're regularly going to go over 200MB, you're better off with 2Degrees as long as you don't move out of their own network.

So it's an OK launch, but I'm a little underwhelmed.

Oh and you don't have to sign up for 24 months with break fees. That beats by a clear margin the Vodafone plan in all catagories except for data.

Bit of a shame that the rest of the country is left out of this offering - I agree with others that 2 degrees had a real opportunity to do the 365 day expiry for the 10gb bit of a shame they didn't take it.

at $120 per gb outside of the main centres they aren't going to be the 3g network of choice for many.

It's definitely better than $10 for 100mb which is what I have now on VF. Thinking of switching once my contract ends in a month or so.

Think of it as a plan that you can mix and match, on VF you ARE locked. No matter if your usage changes or not.

A 2degrees spokesperson also says the company will launch "post-pay" plans for its mobile customers "in a matter of weeks."

Maybe there will be even better deals to come for us business customers who spend much more than $40per month!
