I am creating this topic to discuss announcements made during the 2degrees press event on 3rd August.

I will be updating this topic from the meeting.

As expected 2degrees is annoucing their 3G service. Here are some of the hightlights:

- 3G Mobile Internet pricing: $6 50M of data (for mobile phone and smartphones).

- 3G handsets starting at $199 and some smartphones

- 3G Mobile Broadband service will $20 500MB of data valid for 30 days. Availabe at 2degrees mobile broadband zones only (Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown, Wellington). $50 2GB of data for 60 days. $150 10GB mobile data. Until end of October $50 for 3GB for 60 days.

The 3G Mobile Internet will work on any 3G location, regardless of on-net or Vodafone roaming. The 3G Mobile Broadband service is only available on 2degrees network, and you will pay for casual data usage if you travel outside the zone.

You will obviously have the 3G Mobile Internet on a handset and 3G Mobile Broadband on a USB modem.

Mobile Broadband IS an effective substitute for fixed line broadband.

It will work just fine on a handset. You can buy both Mobile Internet AND Mobile Broadband on the same SIM. Your handset will use the Mobile Broadband while inside the zone, and the Mobile Internet while outside.

If you don't have the Mobile Internet while outside the zone then you will pay casual data.

What time is the press conference? I suppose there should not be too many surprises thanks to the hard work of @Manhinli......

It's at 10:30 I understand.

For me, the remaining question of interest is how long do we have to use that 10GB? Although I use a lot of 3G outside 2Degrees' own network, so probably not an option for me.

Its not looking good...

It looks like 50mb data packs are the biggest going to be available  outside the main centers...

Hopefully the 512Mb data pack is under $30...

Could someone for whom the page *is* live paste the contents into a post here, then?

More Data, Less Dollars, Lasts Longer.
2degrees has been on a mission to make calling and texting better value and now we?re doing the same to data, so you can stay connected without having to worry about the cost.

Our Mobile Broadband Zone Data Packs are jam-packed with megabytes, and you can buy them as often as you like. Plus, the larger the Data Pack you buy, the better value you get, and the longer you have to use it. Simple.

And we won?t lock you into a long term contract either, because that?s just not the 2degrees way...

2degrees Mobile Broadband Zones.
2degrees has recently launched our brand new nationwide 3G network. To see if you can get the best of 2degrees Mobile Broadband, check here to see if you are in one of our Mobile Broadband Zones. Our Zones cover most of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown.

Using data outside of Zone?
If you travel outside of our Mobile Broadband Zones, then you can stay connected using our National Data Pack or choose to pay our standard rates. If you want to pay our standard rates you need to tell us so we can enable your out of zone connection. Simply text Unlock to 233.

To get connected ...
Grab yourself a 2degrees USB Modem.

Was working for me in Safari 5, but just went away again. Guess they are busy updating everything.
