Correct. Well I asked that question on their facebook page. Their response was "Genius IS naked DSL" - which is only partially true.

Unless Orcon have decided to offer naked dsl to the rest of the country you will only get naked dsl from the exchanges they have unbundled and have their own equipment in is what my understanding is. At the moment I have had naked dsl here in New Plymouth for the last 4 and a half years with another isp yet I cant get naked dsl from Orcon at this stage because they havent got to my exchange yet.

according to their CEO they can serve 85% of households with the Genius. They most certainly haven't unbundled 85% of lines so unless they are offering Genius/nDSL outside unbundled areas then their 85% claim is bogus.

We use naked DSL on EUBA to cover areas we haven't unbundled.

For Genius we look for the following

EUBA or LLU. Yes/No?
Can we offer a phone number in that region? Yes/no

If all yes, then genius is good to go.

It's certainly some nice looking gear. Did you sign up on day one? I did but haven't received any ETA yet...and I'm an existing Orcon customer.

I thought this too. But it's not when you work it out.

$85 (ie option1) gives you 30Gb base plan and standard calling. I brought it up to $85 by adding an unlimited national calling plan.

$95 (ie option2) gives you 5Gb base plan and unlimited national calling. I brought it up to $95 by adding 20gb of data to the base plan.

The reason behind the price difference is the BASE PLANS are there to allow you to upgrade and downgrade at will with all the different addons that are available. Orcon would rather have a guarantee that 30Gb of data is going to be paid for each month than worry about the national calling plans. It allows Orcon to better-plan their international data ordering, thus less risk of running out of bandwidth towards the end of the month.

One of the big things about Genius is it prepares Orcon well for the roll-out of UFB, where more and more people will migrate away from Copper-based lines and onto fibre lines.

Offering broadband and VoIP (SIP) now provides Orcon customers with a seemless product to transfer over to fibre when their suburb gets enabled with UFB.

boy - those are some expensive calling rates for a VoIP offering!
26 cents per min to the UK!! I think 2Talk charge 5 cents per min if I am not mistaken.

Just a shame I can't use my existing modem that came with my iiNet VOIP/ADSL2 connection in Australia when I moved home.

So thats $85 for 30GB or $95 for 25 GB??? - my original point was you can pay $85 for 30GB or 15GB per month depending if the 30GB is your base or the national calling is the base... if you need 30GB or more then start with that as the base... if you normally use between 15-30GB per month its worthwhile to just go with the 30GB on these plans...

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

Yup we have local numbers for pukehohe. So along as you can get LLU or EUBA, you should be good to go.

No your wrong :-) It's 3.45 cents/ minute inc GST and 5.75 cents to the US every thing including mobiles..

Yeah, rung around lunchtime the day it was released and got signed up, existing customer as well.

Was even marked as a Saturday delivery, so they seem to be keen to get these out to users :)
