I'm suspecting Orcon don't come up with something soon for non Genius people then there will be a mass migration to Telecom. I've been with Orcon since about Jan 2002 and have had good service from them in general..

Thanks for that link. Worked fine for me and I changed to 200gigs and saved 6 dollars in the process starting the end of next month.

Would have been nice for orcon to do it for me, but perhaps a mailout to existing genius customers with that link would do the trick.

Now I think orcon need to address the non-genius plans because Telecom are being really aggressive in this area. My father has jumped from 5 gigs to 10 gigs, and then 10 gigs to 30 gigs at no extra cost in the last year with Telecom.

Just out of interest in the fact you can login are you on Genius??

Tried to signup today for some reason it wouldnt let me change my plan online so i called orcon.
after about 40minutes of the csr saying the 200gb genius plan would cost me $205 a month i told him to speak to someone higher up after which he finally agreed and said he would transfer me to new signup team .... which failed.... ended up putting me on hold and asking me if i was on the line 6 times... finally gave up and hung up....

Asking this since we are planning to move to Genius, if/when Orcon calls us back regarding our speed...

I?m a long time customer of Orcon and have never had a problem with the service I have received, but I am disappointed in the fact that the new plans are for Genius customers only. No love for the non-Genius customer.

I have a monitored alarm so cant use Genius (or fibre for that matter).

I think I?ll be looking for a new ISP.

Should be charged the same as your current phone & toll charges through Orcon, but best bet is to check with the Orcon accounts team

When I had my Orcon fone via LLU they charged AKL region toll rates for these calls unless you were on the $20 / call anywhere in NZ plan.
This was a couple of years ago so things may have changed..

I'm on a business plan, but I get charged local call rates for those unless I actually dial the 09, then it gets charged as a national call.

We are already orcon customers, however we are in a 12 month plan, if we upgrade, do we need to pay anything cause of the plan we are signed in?

The base plan needs another hard look

Telstraclear $75 = phone line + bb 40GB + wireless modem, 12 mon term and first 2 month free, $150 value upfront.

Orcon provides either national calls or 30 GB for the same price, and longer contract term (plus you "renting" the modem, you can't sell it at end of term).

Maybe Orcon just want to move everyone to the 60 GB/$89 plan, which is a bit of hit n miss to start with.

The 200GB/$99 plan is a star though, but for a small household there aren't much we could do to use even 40 GB a month, legitimately.

My parents got a brown paper bag with an Orcon deal on it for (new) non-genius customers:
1000GB of traffic
I think that is over the whole 12 or 18 month contract, so that cap doesn't expire after a month

That maybe some kind of power offer to churn them off Telecom, so maybe it is stealthily targeting certain areas or addresses. Haven't heard/seen much else about it.

Hopefully someone else can confirm.
