As a side point 2 degrees is the only network that you can use in prison all the other networks installed blocking equipment years ago before 2 degrees started up but 2 degrees dose not feel the need to do so ,lucky for the crims

That equipment was not installed 'by the other networks' but by the prison. It has nothing to do with the network providers at all. There are two main kinds of jammer: radio interference and decoy cell.

The radio interference types work equally well against the entire band(s) so it jams all carriers at the same time. The decoy cell, which is what you are referring to, broadcasts a site signal with the mobile network code of a carrier or carriers, aiming to be the strongest signal in the area. Handsets then camp on that, believing they are on their home network, but receiving no service.

That kind simply needs a firmware update to include the 2degrees mobile network code. I assume this was done years ago, but in any case it has nothing to do with us.

Well I stand corrected never the less the only phones working in prison at present are 2 degrees ones and that is direct from a contact that has only just been released. And it is big money to the inmates who have smuggled one in.

Quick update.

Yes, I can confirm 2D now lets you call up to get the phone blocked from their network, but only if you are a customer. Unlike my previous attempts, I was successful today in doing so over the phone.

Vodafone also lets you call up to get the phone blocked, but you may require some extra pleading to convince them to do it if you are not a customer. They initially said they'd block it no problem, and confirmed it again a couple days later that it was still blocked. Then a week later, they said they had no record of the block! But apparently the block had been in place the entire time.

Of interest. If you have a EID block on Vodafone, but not on 2D, 2D stolen phones can roam on Vodafone networks without any problems.

Telecom lets you call up to get the phone blocked from their network, but only if you are a customer. I tried on a couple occasions to convince them to block a phone that didn't have Telecom SIM without any luck.

Until Telecom and 2D allow blocks from other carriers, it's pointless though. Thieves just have to change to one of the other carriers. In the meantime, you should be very suspicious of 'Only works on 2D' or 'Only works on Telecom' phones on trade me.

Can anyone from the carriers confirm/deny that they won't co-operate with non customers, assuming an official document is provided by the police?
