UncleArthur:  vdsl is limited only by your line speed (download), and 10mb/s (upload - limited by Chorus) - your VDSL won't be artificially slowed down.

That may be the case, but when they put "Up to 30 mb/s" on the plan those without the technical knowledge may think it is a technically inferior product.

Inferior to what, UFB?  TBH... it is.

(I guess you probably mean to other ISPs VDSL offerings... Can't say I see too much issue there either. At least it means they will hit their stated line speed in the majority of cases, while if they say 70Mbps a lot of people won't get anywhere near.)

To current connections. My VDSL syncs at around 34mb/s and I knew that it is not possible for 2 degrees to cap the sync at 30 mb/s.

However average Joe will likely not see that and think "it's actually slower than my current connection"

My point isn't about the technical knowledge, its that IMHO 2 Degrees could take some learning's out of this process as to how they could better interact with consumers.

And if they DO slow it down, well it was printed there for all to see.

Don't know if it adds anything to the conversation, but I've got a response from support@2degreesbroadband.co.nz to my query, and I quote:

"If you're getting higher than 30Mbit sync rates at preset then these should not change by changing to a 2degrees plan. As far as I'm aware, the 30Mbit restriction is only for fibre customers."

"If you opt for either of the open terms we will not charge you a $99.00 set up fee."

I am a Snap/2degrees VDSL customer and am currently off-contract. Just wanted to get the information straight from the source.

They really need to be more clear about this. And their speed boosts need to be more front and centre, not on the bottom of a page thats hard to get to, or only when you click through to the sign up form.

A better statement from them would have been:
"DSL services including ADSL and VDSL will go as fast as your modem and phone line allows. They are not limited to 30Mbit, however this the typical speed of a VDSL connection.
Our fibre services start with 30Mbit as their base plan. You can upgrade to a faster fibre plan at any time using our Speed Boosts."

Just noticed that after it changed over to the new billing cycle, you no longer have the option to buy the old data packs, i.e. $15 for 100GB. The only additional data you can buy is $2 for 1GB surprised. Looks like just another one of the unpublished silent price increases, seriously unimpressed by this.

So much about everything stays the same as long as you stay with your existing plan. Grrrrrrr!!!!

Wouldn't it be better to switch to an unlimited plan?

I run out of data infrequently so I only add it if I need it. And it is $15 not $20. And I could add it in an instance, not have to wait until the next billing cycle.
It is all about creeping cost increases through the back door. And them telling the public 'Oh no, nothing has changed!' Yeah right!

Have you actually rung them to check it's really not available and not just an oversight on the website?

Or rung them up to ask if they'll give you a good deal to upgrade to unlimited?

A few months back I did exactly this - they gave me an upgrade to unlimited for an additional $10 a month (with no extension to my contract).

If you don't ask, you won't know!

Note that the overage charge is capped at $30 so you'll never pay more than $99/month.

Sent 2Degrees an email the other day with a few questions about the new plans, but still haven't heard back.  Just looking for clarification/official position on the following things (apologies if they're already been covered here), and hoping someone from 2Degrees can calrify:

1. Under my old Snap plan (Lightwave 30/10) the VOIP line was included in the price.  It now looks like it's an extra $15 to the price of the new plans.  Is that correct?

2. For existing (transferring from Snap) customers, is there a connection fee to switch to the new plans?  It sounds like there is...

3. Is there an early termination charge if I switch from a current contract to an open term contract, and how much is it?

4. If I switch from a current contract to a 12-month contract, do I still pay a connection fee?  Do I get the Fritzbox 7490 for free on the 12 month contract?

Applied for plan change last week via website since it didn't mention the connection fee or contract term. (so I just get open contract I presume)
Received Neon 6 month code this week.
Nothing else lol.

Wow. This has been so poorly managed. Unbelievable.

Things better improve or I'll be seriously considering switching elsewhere at the end of my term.

you should not have to pay connection fee and also should get the 7490 modem. It's still a new deal as long as you sign up a 12 months contract. What is the difference if you ditch 2 Degree and sign up said with Spark for a 12 months contract.
