I don't think we know if it is naked or not yet.

But I agree, you would think a 24 month contract would negate the need for a phone line.

Since their homeline plan is ~$10 more than the basic telecom homeplan (In chch and wellington at least), they might be budgeting for that profit as well.

But anyway, their current naked plan is $30 more than their equivalent capped plan, so you might hope that $30 surcharge would do it for this plan

Ok so confirmed that yeah can't be naked. Still $127 for uncapped isn't insanely unreasonable even if it is more than Telecom were charging.

Considering they are the only game in town...not like we have a lot of options :S

Yeah its a bit pricy, but you are getting quite a lot! I was skeptical about telecom's plan when it was launched as the pricing was so low at $60 it didnt seem like it would cover the costs of a reasonable service - slingshot's offer at $80 seems like they might even be able to do it properly.

Having said that, if you price it low enough, you will get medium internet users (10-20gb per month) on the plan for the certainty of cost, and they can balance out the mega-users. I suspect a good majority of Bigtime customers were the medium use group, families that we're sick of going over the limit and blaming each other, etc. But I guess there were more megausers than they had budgeted for.

I don't know why ISP's think unlimited is good. How about offering decent sized 100-200GB plans instead?

you must be holding it wrong as I get great off peak speeds and have noticed that they have been getting faster over the last few weeks. fs/128kbps (6hour of free data period) and I can get around 4GB a night, that about a GB more than last month a night.
Last 8 days I got 29.38GB of free data and could have got more, but couldn't find anything interesting.
Slingshot freedata periods are not that slow.

I have also heard on the slingshot forums, that people with existing Slingshot contracts can change to the new plan and not have to pay a termination fee on there old deals and will just have a 24month contract like everyone else for joining the all you can eat plan.

Telecoms failed Big Time was $69.95 so 79.95 for Slingshots all you can eat seems alright.

I only manage to get 2gb during offpeak period and during peak periods I can barely load international webpages. My modem syncs at ~16Mbps so it's not a linespeed issue.

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

You can't sign up until tomorrow, they were reserving spots if you emailed them, not sure if there is any spots yet.

I got an email earlier confirming that my spot has been reserved.

Got a reply from Slingshot on Twitter to say that FTP traffic is going to be given the same priority as streaming.

Depends what you're getting, popular stuff from public trackers will be cached., stuff from private trackers won't be. Can't expect every torrent or p2p item ever to be cached. I still believe 180kB/s is a pretty decent speed avergage for the free period, considering what you're getting is well, free. If that's consistent across a month you're easily looking at over 100 gig.

No option to go naked may kill this for me. I also don't like 24 month contracts but I see why they did it.

Anyone know what their termination fees are like?
