ipsi: I assume this means that it won't work on something like Cyanogen Mod then? (Apologies if it's already covered - I haven't read the whole thread). If not, then does anyone know if there's a feature request for CM that's requesting the necessary APIs?

No, it won't.

Long story, but we have one of the LGs from the Geekzone launch event. Thanks 2degrees, Snapper, and Geekzone!
All has gone swimmingly well (except when I gave it to my partner to use on the bus and had turned NFC off to save battery). Weekend broadband is great (but watch the battery!). Snapper replaced all three family cards for Java ones. 2degrees Customhouse Quay put a two-week pass on it (which aforementioned partner is working her way through). Only issue - Wellington 2Degrees stores ran out of blank Snapper Sims. I was heading to Porirua anyway. They had the Sims, and put my other number on it no problem. :-)

I also was lucky enough to win one (thanks guy who left early) My son now uses it daily to bus to work and snapper stuff on it. He thinks its great, even though he has an S3, and a Blackberry for work, so 3 phones??   I assume the S3 will be snapper  compatible soon also, if not already?

You have to buy the S3 from 2deg though for full functionality.

kiwitrc meet Foo
Foo: Can confirm this as well - I've got the 2degrees snapper sim in my Telecom branded SGS III and the widget doesn't work. However, I am able to use my phone as a snapper card, just not see my balance on the widget.

Is there any way to download the necessary API?

Looks like a Telecom S3 will do the Snappering, not sure about Vodafone
captainsteve: I can confirm that a VF supplied handset won't work with the Snapper app, even if a Touch2Pay SIM is used.

I've been down to the 2deg store with my SIM and the app won't pick up the fact that it is a Touch2Pay SIM, it asks you to use one, even though there is already one in the phone. The SIM card worked fine in their display model, leading me to believe that the VF firmware is missing the APIs.

Neets, Steve, Scott thanks, shows how good my memory is, I have actually read that only a few days ago. I think its time to retire to a quiet place in the country :(

Bit of a tangent, but of interest to those who have an LG P693 - I was surprised that I couldn't find a screen protector, and only one, expensive, rubberlike case for it on TradeMe (or anywhere else), so have ordered some of each from Aliexpress.com. Had to buy some extras, so if anyone on Geekzone wants on, IM me - probably about $5 or so for one of each.

Just tried this out with my Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean, worked great reading my HOP Card!
Wish the full implementation would work with the Nexus, Google Wallet does!!!!

I've just stumbled across this thread and I'm trying to make sense of it.

I bought a 2degrees Galaxy S3 in Auckland last month.

Can someone tell me if:

1) all 2degrees micro sims are snapper ready? Or do you have to specifically get a touch2pay sim?

2) Once I have the correct sim in place (if needed) can anyone confirm whether I can use my S3 to pay for bus transport in Auckland that I'm currently using a Hop / Snapper card for?

My S3 can read my hop card balance using NFC just fine so not sure if that helps determine whether my sim is compatible.

Thanks!

Yes, you can use it if you have the proper handset (either the LG Net or the 2degrees SIII.

Added a feature request to CM for adding in the necessary stuff to make it work: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=5763

I'm not sure exactly what needs to be done, so it's awfully high-level.

quick question, If I have a Galaxy S III that is not from 2 degrees, but with a 2 degrees touch2pay sim, will it work?? Or does the phone need to be purchased through 2 degrees??
Also, is there a hardware/software difference (sim size or APIs)??

Cheers

Already been answered in this thread - it won't work. You need both a touch2pay SIM and a 2 Degrees Galaxy S 3 to use your phone to pay for things, due to software that's only in the 2D S3. You can still use it to top up / view the balance of existing (new) snapper cards.
