JamesllW: I have been running the global mode for a few weeks now. Prior to this i had a subscription VPN service that worked well with Netflix. Although the global mode works fine for me it is eating up a lot more GB than i experienced with the VPN connection.

Has anyone else experienced this? Before we never touched the 50gb we have a month, now 1/3 of the way through the month and its pushing 30gb

Some services will dynamically adjust the video quality to match your connection speed. A DNS-based solution is likely to be faster than a VPN so you could be getting higher-bandwidth streams.

is there a list of which aplications/websites work with global mode?

I know when you use unblock-us there are some services that work, and some that don't because they have to specifically enable the service over their unblocking connection. An example would be HBO Go doesn't work on unblockus because unblockus hasn't enabled it because virtually nobody would use it because you need a US cable subscription for it to work.

so it would be interesting to see what works and what doesn't. Slingshot should be able to post a list so that when my American cousin comes over he will know whether his HBO Go subscription will work or not.

I wish it was that easy! Viewing has actually decreased since we lost a shift working flatmate with a penchant for Korean action movies (of which there are a lot on netflix BTW... but that's way off topic)

I was wondering if there would be a difference between VPN consumption through strongVPN and the consumption via the 'Global mode' setup (lack of local caching, slingshot being less sympathetic to global mode consumption)? Could this be a possibility or should i look elsewhere for the 'leak'?

I guess the best way to find out would be to go back to the VPN and turn off global mode.

Good point! I do seem to still get a lot of the cursed buffering, but i guess when its humming along you cant really tell the difference between the higher ranges. Maybe a manual setting to limit max streaming speed may be the ticket.

you can do that with Netflix - reduce the bitrate - in your account settings.

Or you could just spend the extra $10 or so and buy a much bigger data cap and enjoy lots and lots of content!

Not working for me. BBC iPlayer not working either (on the whole, seems to work very occasionally). Wonder if it's a UK thing? Will try 4od and others when I get home.

BBC iPlayer been working fine here, just not fast enough for HD streaming and the occasional buffering on normal streaming but otherwise all good.

Not so australia's SBS TV or france's tv channels like france3... disappointingly Non-Global!

I've been tinkering with Global mode on and off.

Used it for netflix for about a week, but found it impacted on some on-line games i played.
Thinking that either it or another user on my network was the issue i throttled the suspected user and turned off global mode to be safe.
- no more issues.

Turned Global mode back on recently and getting the same gaming issues.

When tends to happen is that when 2-3 people are playing something like DOTA2, we drop connection to the DOTA2 network one by one, and then reconnect, disconnect, reconnect etc.

I'll see how i go over the next few days, but fairly sure global mode was to blame as I have turned that off again now.

Chrizvi: just turned on mine and I could access both netflix and hulu on my pc. netflix on apple tv2 works as well... BUT unfortunately HULU is not working on apple tv... anyone can test this on their apple tv as well? will use unblock for now..

Has any one managed to get Hulu working on the Native Apple TV App with global mode?
The only way I can get it to wok is by using the Tunlr DNS settings directly on the Apple TV

Im having the same problem. Hulu works fine on my iPad but just says Hulu Plus is unavailable at this time please try again later.

If i changed my DNS to googles then i can select shows but when they start to play i get the geo blocking message.

Netflix works fine with slingshots DNS but not Googles.

Its a bit frustrating as i would like to watch hulu on my tv. I haven't tried on pc yet.
