surfisup1000: I'm now switched to snap unlimited.

Previous to today, the slowest download speed i've ever recorded on my 100/50 plan (via speedtest) has been around 70mbps. Usually it hovers around 90mbps.

But, today, my speed via speedtest.net is 27mbps.

I guess I'll wait until tomorrow and see if it is still low and give them a call.

27mbits sounds like you may have accidentally been put to a 30mbit profile..

Maybe, but my plan changed yesterday and was working OK.

Just when I checked a couple of hours ago it slowed down.

Tried rebooting the ONT/Fritzbox but no luck.

Had about 3 powercuts just before though, so wondering if that causes some issue where it slows down to a lower speed.

I'm very confused now .

My plan switched over yesterday and I was on full speed for lightwave ultra (100/50).

Then, the powercut happened today, and my speed dropped to 30 down/50 up.

On my snap account it says I am on Lightwave Home Unlimited -- but , this is a 30/10 plan and I never asked for a reduction in speed. Also, my upload is 50 so it looks like i'm on some kind of hybrid plan.

Guess i'll have to ring snap.

Fortunately, I don't think this relates to congestion issues with the new unlimited plans.

Called snap , they answered the phone immediately, and checked my connection, adjusted my plan, rebooted my router, and all working fine now.

Great service, thanks snap.

Bit strange how I ended up on a 30down/50up speed though.

That happened to me a few months back when I changed from 30/10 to 100/50. Have seen it mentioned in other threads too.

I've had the same problem when switching between plans. Went from 30d/10u plan to 50d/20u, but ended up with 20d/50u. Called them up and they "fixed" it pretty much straight away (I'm now 50d/50u...)

Always get great customer service from Snap!

How long does a speed change take? Currently 30/10 lightwave home, would consider the 100/50 plan in the future. Is the change instant once the request to change plans is made?

No not instant as Snap have to get Chorus to make changes at their end too. Took about a week for mine to change over.

My speed right after UFB installed was wrong too, called them up and fixed, for me the speed change took about 3 or 4 hours.
But I am on Enable network not Chorus.

Complete fail for me.

I currently pay $130 a month for VDSL (total 350GB) with Snap Plus phone service and unlimited national calls.

Swapping over to the "it's way cheaper" plans I can get the same with unlimited data for $129.

Now considering I have never exceeded my data cap anyway I can only see this as a big negative given we are now going to have every "linux enthusiast" wink wink downloading massive files constantly as they tend to do.

So I save a whopping $1, get more data which I won't use and will no doubt have a reduced service. Anyone around here old enough to remember what happened when Xnet had unlimited data??

And to top it off I have been having regular disconnects over the past 3-4 months. After sending an email and getting a response 7 days later I was told that yes my line was disconnecting but it was within the "threshold" as determined by Chorus. Not Snap's fault I can appreciate and I have read a bit about issues with crosstalk with VDSL but still frustrating.

Would it be safe to assume that as most ISPs will be jumping on the Unlimited bandwagon and as SNAP is not the cheapest of the pack that we might be safely insulated from the "linux enthusiasts" as one could assume they would be hitting the cheapest options on the market ala Bigpipe etc?

I got switched over at 6pm tonight. My previous cap was 200GB, but I never went past about 80% usage. It's actually costing me a few dollars more per month, but I like not having to worry about the cap. It'll come in handy when the next Steam sale rolls around, which is usually in June.

I suspect that Evening is correct here. Snap weren't the first to go unlimited, and they're not the cheapest. I would say that the worst of the bandwidth leeches have already gone elsewhere, and those that are left were probably paying for a higher data cap anyway.

Also, you can't compare the situation today with how things were a year or 2 ago. It wasn't all that long ago that a 30GB cap was "massive", and now it's common to find plans with 100GB or more. There are also a number of ISPs doing unlimited data, so the customer load will be spread around quite a bit more than in the past.

What sort of speed issues?

Ping monitor on my connection seems fine, and it's the same as before the switch took place for me onto unlimited plan last Friday.
