Most of the pins are only giving me 20/30/50MB, and Dunedin isn't exactly covered in pins compared to some cities.

That being said, I was in Christchurch and remembered to check the app in a few malls I was in - so managed to get a few extra MB (best was 300MB). Only have 1.5GB so far though.

Still finding the app is so slow ... on an LG G6

On Saturday I found 6-7 gold pins in the app, and managed to get to 2 of them (Botany and Pakuranga malls). Couldn't make it to Sylvia Park nor the 3 in Newmarket, Auckland Domain and City. I think there was one in Onehunga as well.

All showing as blue this morning. It seems that the gold pins are temporary this year.

Gold pins are always temporary (and were last year too)

Well done for getting two though! I think I’ve only ever SEEN two, and always too far off to get to (for me)

There was an alert on the app saying that Gold Pins wer being dropped for the first day of summer outside their stores for just one day.

That may have been some of the ones you saw that went back to blue.

Incidentally, I have found the app to be quite flaky this year. the map doesn't track my movement as well as it did last year and I've encountered a number of pins that have either expired when found or that state they're broken (coded error messages given).

I have found 24 spots so far that have worked for a total of 2.4gb...most have been 20 or 30 or 50 MB...couple of larger ones here and there but mostly small.

Haven't come across a single gold pin.

Edited for spelling

I missed the notification for the gold pins but after seeing your post I think all the gold pins I spotted in the app on Saturday were at 2 degrees stores - the two that I spun certainly were.

Last year, the gold pins remained gold for more than a few days. I took a trip down the SH1 and on the return trip a week later was able to spin the gold pins on another sim.

Was a gold one in Porirua mall on Saturday and it wouldn't let me have it when I appeared to be standing on top of it but my partner got it when she wasn't even that close to it.

I've found the whole experience quite painful this year - it's buggy and slow and inaccurate.

Last year it worked a charm.

If that happens your locations settings maybe be out of sync with the app so we advise restarting the app and phone and trying again, making sure your location settings are turned on 'when using the app'.

Just in:
If you haven't been out hunting for data yet, you'd better get started. We've teamed up with Santa to drop a dozen special Christmas Pins all around New Zealand for the next 12 days, starting tomorrow.

What’s so special about these Christmas Pins? We’re glad you asked. Spin a Christmas Pin and one lucky customer per day could win unlimited* data for life! You’ll never need to hunt down a WiFi spot again.

We're not just going to tell you where they are though, you'll need to crack a clue each day to work out where we've hidden them. We’ll be posting a new clue each day on our 2degrees Facebook page. Make sure you check in everyday to see if there is a pin in your area!

Got the Data Hunt app already? Make sure you’ve updated to the latest version. You’ll be able to check this in your app store.

Update or download Data Hunt now.

@2degreescare

Now that I’ve just reached the 10Gb limit, I notice I can’t even see the pins map anymore, and so I’m automatically prevented from playing the super new game of ‘12 days’ and the chance to get unlimited data for life ...

Could you please update the app to allow people who’ve ‘finished’ the game to still partake in this Christmas Frenzy too?d

@PhantomNVD I was thinking the same thing I reached the 10GB+ about 2 weeks back and now can't enter this as well

So does everyone that gets the green special pins get unlimited data, or do you just go in the draw? Trying to work out if it’s worth the drive.
