why 50MB of data has to be used within 30 days? why not 50MB of data until finished?

I asked the same question earlier in this thread and would apply it to ALL add ons:

"The only criticism I have of these add ons is the necessity to use within 30 days, would be so much better to have them last for the duration until they were used.

I can spot the obvious commercial reason for doing so but, as a very casual user, it is slightly annoying."

$6 a month isnt bad though, so the 30 day expiration doesn't bother me.

im paying $80 a month for my iphone with vodafone atm.

would be nice if it was a sliding expiration date though, so if you buy another 50mb and you had say 10mb that was about to expire, that 10mb would be renewed for another 30 days. in the long run you may only be paying 10months of data instead of 12, which is a nice little customer loyalty incentive, and wouldnt cost 2degrees much at all.

I can understand why magic topups need to be within certain period of time, best mate from vodafone or 2000 txts only within 30 days. How many people actually using 2000 txts? They probably end up with 1 year worth of free texting after 2-3 months being on that add ons if they are allowed to bring forward the leftover txts.

My question is why DATA has to be used within 30 days? It *should* be within at least 1 year. My argument would be, data costs will be cheaper as time progressed. I dont see the harm of allowing customers to hold onto the data block that they HAVE paid for extended period of time.

so you can understand for voice and txt but not for data? some may use the exact same arguement you used for txt, people could by the bundle or bundles one month and then spend nothing for the rest of the year. if data prices get cheaper then the bundle price will come down as well.

Annoying sure, but you need to look at it from the point of view that 2degrees have plans without having plans.

For example people always go on about them not having minutes bundles.
From what I can see is that their plans are way better than what telecom/VF have.

2Degrees have the problem that people are lazy and don't know a calculator from their right hand.
If they had a plan for $50 that gives you 100 minutes to anyone (ANYTIME) with 500 texts and 50MB data; everyone would go WOW let's do that.
Let's create some plans...

XT
One Rate 50 - open term
$50 - 50 minutes any time
$12 - 2500 texts (OMG!!!)
$12 - 120 MB data
Total $73.95/mo

One rate 180
$80 - 180 Minutes anytime
$12 - 2500 texts
$12 - 120 Mb Data
Total $103.95/mo

VF
Easy 150 - 12 months
$49.95 - 150 Anytime +120 nights/weekends
$12 - 600 texts
$10 - 100mb data
Total $72/mo

2degrees
$50 - 113 Anytime Minutes
$0 500 texts
$12 - 120Mb
Total $62 /mo

Now I know it is all up to personal preferences rarara...
But What I am saying is that it does not look too bad if you put 2degrees into a 'plan'

My original point is that companies make MILLIONS out of providing plans that aren't fully utilised. Its the whole idea. If they let you use all your data up over 1 year, you would end up paying MORE.

and your point is???

2000 txts from vodafone is a ridiculous addons. after 3 months you have paid for 6000 txts, i probably use only 1k-2k txts per YEAR. If they let you bring forward the leftover txts plan, vodafone will end up with idle customers. this is not good for the company. magic topups is a form of incentive to let the customers frequently topup their phone. best mates plan is a plan on its own. You pay $6 flat rate for one month.

My question is why we are not allowed to bring forward data bundles that has been PAID? we are not talking about 1GB or 2GB worths of data but only 5MB - 10MB per month. I do not see the harm to the company but this will give more value to the customers.

The discussion is not about which company has the cheapest 'plans'. My question is why the leftover data bundles cannot last for more than 30 days?

lol - nah that was not against you, just in general. Some people keep on saying that they don't have plans.

You are quite right about companies making millions from unused Mb. Currently  i Pay for 2Gb a month but would be licky to use 700mb. Thus giving my provider the opportunity the ability to resell 1.3 Gb they have already been paid for. The other problem I would say stops providers offering extended availability of Data as I understand is the requirement to also purchase bandwith from Upstream providers. Clearly they need to match supply to demand as much as possible.

I guess when you look at it, it's alot better than paying $1 a day! It's good that the add on has been added to the network. I use to quite easily spend nearly $6 a week just on vodafone prepay.

So it looks alot better. But not so much for me... I have blackberry, so I'm waiting patiently for them to open up blackberry so I can use wap. haha Gutted for me.

Interesting. But the principal behind plans is to lock you in for a term and sell you a cheap phone (that they dont really make much money on) and then feed off your monthly spend which is then divded up between the store that you bought the phone from and Vodafone or Telecom (who ever your provider is)..
