kiwijunglist: Can I go into DSE and buy the monthly sim + sign up + arrange transfer of my old vodafone number?

Transfer of VF number is best done online - make sure contacts are copied (from VF SIM) and if you are prepay that your credit has been run down low. Porting (switching number) usually only takes several hours.

anything??  I can use the discount to buy unicorns? :D

I used mine to buy a zombie. I put him on a leash in the middle of the orchard - no more pest problems. OTOH he's dumb as two bricks so every morning I have to go out and unwind him from the tree he's wrapped himself up in overnight by walking around in circles (he has a gammy leg).

Where did you get your zombie, and how much was he (if you don't mind me asking)? Would you recommend using trademe etc or is it better to pay more upfront and get a new zombie with a warranty?

Zombies are a little strange. There's no such thing as a "brand new" zombie - by definition they're already well used and often falling apart by the time you get them.

I tossed it up - a new Ideos or a zombie? In the end I got the zombie off Trademe. The guy who sold it threw in a box of pine-tree shaped car deodorisers and a small folding lobo (better safe than sorry, he said) for free.

Just hang the deodoriser around their neck to help keep the flies down. Loosely, mind you, otherwise the head falls off, which is really awkward.

Hi

Alternatively just get a pre-pay $5 SIM from your local dairy or store that sells them and do it all online.

More info here - http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/paymonthly/switching.

You must use driver's license number to do it online. You can do credit card authority or one-off credit card payments.

Will post this in here rather than starting a whole new thread for my trivial questions since they many be relevant to others too.

SaltyNZ - I am keen to now port across from VF (now that the contract termination fee for me has dropped to something more manageable). I have some questions first though.

Firstly, I have an existing prepay 022 number, but I want to port my VF number across to 2d. I'm guessing I should go through the porting process first and then sign up for PayMonthly. Correct?

With porting from VF, am I likely to experience any issues with receiving calls/texts? If I read elsewhere correctly, anything nationally should not be an issue, but texts from overseas are still hit-and-miss. Is this correct? Any other issues?

How would I get on roaming overseas with a ported number? I don't go overseas very often at all, but if I do, am I likely to strike any problems?

I live in Ashburton. Therefore I would need to use National Data packs. Are there plans to expand the network to towns like Ashburton, and if so - when? (Ultimately, would really like to be buying the Mobile Broadband Data Packs and not the tiny National Data Packs, and this may the deal breaker in porting)

I was thinking about possibly taking up the deal on the EDIOS on PayMonthly but I just would not use that many minutes - not even close. So I will probably just buy the phone outright. Went into the local Harvey Normans yesterday to look at the EDIOS. They had a dummy phone in a drawer, but told me I could not buy an EDIOS from them - only their stores in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and somewhere else (I forget where) have them to sell. Thought this very odd and was quite annoyed as they've got 20% off all mobiles at the moment. Grrr.

Finally, I see the rate for accessing voicemail is  20c - is this per min or per time you access it (or other)?

Thanks.

Pop a 2deg simcard in, dial 202 or is it 200? and push 0. They are pretty quick and helpful.

Hmmm, ok. First, porting either way is fine, but either make sure the port is complete before signing up for Psy Monthly, or wait for the Psy Monthly sign up to be confirmed before porting.

You are correct in your summary of porting issues. SMS from international networks may or may not work. We trybvery hard to fix the issues when they arrive, but ultimately, we have no actual control over how other carriers route their messages.

Porting won't make any difference to your experience while roaming though.

Plans to expand the network are under way, but I can't tell you where the coverage will ultimately go or what the time frame is, sorry.

The 20c voicemail charge is a flat fee, ie 20c no matter how long you spend dealing with messages.

Cheers
S
