lokhor: Even $15/500mb would be reasonable wouldn't it?

No, adding $10 a month to my existing cost is paletable any more sounds like too much. Extending the validity of the 1gb pack to 60 days would work also

I agree, you can't expect them to offer half the data for half the price that's just not the way things work.

I absolutely disagree. If 2D are happy selling a gb for $20 then offering half the data for half the price is an acceptable request. Bottom line is that 2D would probably sell far more than double the number of data packs equating to better revenue.

I suspect that the expiry of unused data allocations would inflate their effective revenue per megabyte quite
significantly. Introducing a 500mb for $10 option may well increase their revenue but whether it would increase their gross margin is an entirely different matter and if their commercial managers are on the ball then it has probably already been the subject of a cost/benefit analysis.

What is more important, GP or turnover? I would suspect marketshare would rank a bit higher while they are jostling for position.

2D is all about providing us the consumer better value, as far as smartphone packages 2D have nothing or any combination that is significantly better than the competition at present. Any more than $10 could tip the cost/value scale the wrong way

I would have thought that funding their infrastructure build out would have been a higher priority than buying market share, but in reality we don't know what gets said around the boardroom table.

Look at the entry level options (which I suspect are the pick of the bunch for the average consumer),
VF ? 30 mins + 300txts + 250mb (3gb @ present) = $40.85
XT ? 50mins + 300txts + 500mb = $40
2D ? 60mins + 1000txts + 50mb = $29 + 1gb Data = $49

A $10/500mb monthly data add-on would very nicely align their offering against the competition. At the end of the day I am just the consumer, I don?t care how it happens, don?t even care if it is not possible, fact of the matter is that based on my quick research $40 could be considered a viable price point for a usable smartphone orientated plan for consumers like me.

Or you could have the new $19 Combo Pre Pay pack, lasts 30 days, 30 mins, 50MB, 2000 texts and if you add the 1GB = $39.  No contracts or tie-in, do a monthly Auto Top-up and it will auto-renew plus you can add other packs if and when you need them.

With these auto-renew packs, what happens when you don't have enough credit. I understand that the pack won't auto-renew in this circumstance, but does it also cancel your enrollment in the auto-renewal? Or does it auto-renew as soon as enough credit is added?

In my experience it auto renews when credit is added unless you cancel before adding credit.

30 minutes is not enough talktime as well as 1gb being too much data, as has been stated previously in this thread, it is generally hard to chew through more than 500mb a month on a smartphone, your pay monthly plans are fine (with the exeption of data allowance), you don't need to reinvent the wheel jsut give me a usable data allocation.

If nothing else extend the 1gb pack to 60days expiry and i will buy a pack every second month...

This looks very much like the US model for prepay.   Prepay $X per month for 30 days every month....

I agree 30 mins talktime is a little light, but if youre struggling to do 500Mb on a smartphone your doing something wrong ;)

Release yourself from the shackles of fixed broadband and download, download and download some more :)

We stream all our music in the house because the FM signal is rubbish. Take that a step further and stream the radio to your car and you'll soon be racking up the usage :)

I sometimes wonder if Kiwis have lost their imagination on whats possible with a smartphone because of being strangled by fixed caps all the time on fixed broadband.

I think the Aus prepay model is like this too, a fixed amount of $ per month

@martyyn
Why?
people use smartphones differently
I use my smartphone for emails, a bit of google map + facebook/twitter etc.
Which rarely go over 250mb a month.
Never used my phone for radio, there is one built in and why use a mobile when I have an ipod touch....

MOBILE: Huawei P30

I do think a 500mb plan would be great, I don't think 2Degrees can realistically offer it for half the price of the 1gb plan. It would make a lot of sense to introduce it at $15. that'd mean you could get 30 minutes + 2000 texts + 550mb for $34
