loganjames: Does any one know if they're planning any towers in the south island other than the ones in Christchurch or queenstown?

From what I saw on the maps the answer to that was no.

I would suspect they would do Dunedin. However I think they would probably focus on getting north island penetration first. And 2D will know where more of their customer are roaming on Voda and where the business case stacks up to build their own gear.

Tron, Tauranga, Taupo, Wanganui and Palmy North seem to be the areas they are building in as per where they have newly registered sites in RSM. Who knows if they they will go all the way and try and get nationwide coverage, but building sites isn't cheap so plenty more postpaid corporate customers is what 2D needs.

When I was having a nosy at the RSM database, it looks like Invercargil is in line for towers also. Be good if they could expand into greater southland and give Woosh a run for their money

Ohh I see.. I've just updated the TwoDegreesNew from the latest RSM Dump.

KML and Google Maps

Plus they seem to be doing between Wellington and Palmy (Otaki / Levin) and also Rotovegas and Napier/Hastings and Wangarei.

They really are moving out of the major metro's into the greater NZ.

Good news that they are expanding, however i was surprised to roam onto VF while in the airport terminal today at chch!

If ya look at the link to google maps it would seem a new cell site is going in at chch airport.

Interesting to note in Tauranga that 2degrees are starting to look at alternate locations for sites Ontrack Bureta looks like is now going to be a light pole replacement down the road as the business next to the original location refused them site access through their property.

I've done a full dump of all 2D entries.

KML and Google Maps

The 2 character codes in the Types are:

FR = Fixed >=14GHz (Bi-directional)
FJ = Fixed >=1GHz & <14GHz (Bi-directional)
SZ = Other >=30dBW (Spectrum)

The SZ Spectrum sites are the cell-site locations. The FR and FJ's are Microwave point to point links. With potential for them to be future cell-sites. Especially in locations where 2D is building.

This would be the second tower at CHCH airport as there is already one at the end of Wairaki Rd that I used to drive past every day - so still surprising that you roamed on to voda.

If you check the TwoDegreesAll.kml or at GoogleMaps you will see that none of the Spectrum (SZ) licenses have been done yet since the towers haven't been fully commissioned. So it's just the microwave backhaul (FR's or FJ's) that are in place. But unless it has 3+ FR's or FJ's you could safely assume at some stage in the future it will be a cell-site.

You will see in the places where they already have coverage they either register their two 900Mhz carriers:

Freq: 937.0 Type: SZ
Freq: 941.9 Type: SZ

And if they also have 2100Mhz infill you will also see:

Freq: 2162.5 Type: SZ

Which I assume is for 3G only.

But that tends to be in the more built up areas

Plus in even more densely populated areas they have a 1800Mhz carrier too for 2G.
