Snackos: Sounds awesome for me. Currently I pay $105 for 60 gigs, but on the new plan I get 200gigs for $99.

I presume orcon auto-changes us to the new plans, or do we need to contact them and do it ourselves?

You will need to contact the Helpdesk on 0800 13 14 15 or via our website here: https://www.orcon.net.nz/support/request

wait, what?

you mean you aren't migrating customers over to the new plans?   that's pretty poor.

As both the pricing AND content of the plans are changing, it would not be right for us to automatically switch customers over as it may not suit certain customer's particular situation (in fact it's not actually legal for us to do so anyway).

I just called to upgrade my Orcon@Home to Genius and I was told that I have to pay a $100 connection fee to change plans! Ridiculous! The cheek of it, especially considering the huge amount that I have spent on additional data over the last 12 months (Probably about $400ish extra). I expected more than that from Orcon. They have totally encouraged me to look elsewhere!

I am in exactly the same boat! Let's go to Telstra.. at least 2-3 months of free supply would help redeem some of it :P

Well I would really like to stay with Orcon but I am not going pay a connection fee to upgrade plans just out of shear principle of it. Telstra looks OK with 2 months free ($150 value) + free modem. I would need to get extra 40gb so $105 pm for 80gb for 12months.

I'm going to be moving house soon.
  • Got my Telecom home phone changeover sorted.
  • Got the Genesis power change sorted.
  • Got the mobile sorted [no great change here, just the address].

But Orcon say I HAVE to go Genius. I want to stay with my current plan. What's the point in having Naked when I've with another Telco?  Besides, part of my strategy is not to have all eggs in 1 basket in case 1 Telco goes down then I have 2 'backups'.

Is it legal for them to MAKE me change?

I'm not an Orcon customer but a recent announcement from my provider has made me see if the grass is green on the other side and investigate packages/service that other providers offer.

I was suprised to see that I would only receive 25GB of data if I continued at the same cost as my current plan if I decided to change to Orcon.

Orcon, for non Genius subscribers, your price per GB isn't even close to being competitive. For $10 more I get 10GB on your plan, but at Telecom I get 95GB.

You don't have to change to Genius, but you will have to change to either Genius or one of our Homeline + Broadband plans as we no longer offer a Broadband-only product for residential customers - they all have a Homeline in one form or another.

Dido - I have given notice to switch on 24th June. When I called customer service I was half expecting that Orcon would have a retention team/effort that would temp me to re-sign on as a customer, especially given the charge history on our account ( a number of $200pm bills in the last 12 months).  However there was no attempt whatsoever. What was once perceived as a great telco is just letting valuable customers walk out the door.

Some reasonable broadband deals are finally starting to appear on the NZ market.

Same here! I had first called to check what was the end date on my contract,  they said its after 45 days from today and u need a 30 day notice, if u r keen to go, we can count this call as a notice call and we ll close ur account as soon as contract expires! They were so keen to let me go.. :P
I was just inquiring at the time, not calling to give a notice..

Later on, having waited long enough for a plan overhaul which never happened, I decided to move away and yes nothing from any retention team! Good going Orcon! They are only inetersted in new Genius sign ups I suppose.

My notice to cancel with Orcon was not such a straight forward experience. My 12 month term was due to finish on 23 June. When I asked Orcon last month whether I needed to give notice to switch / end my service, no-one at Orcon seem to know for sure what their policy / procedure was. My call got passed onto to 3 different team members. At first I was told that I did not need to give notice and then I was told by someone else that I did. I really hope that they have not mucked this up and charge me for anything further past 23 June!

Oh one other thing, Orcon should send the courier bag in the post. That would have saved me thinking that I had an important parcel being delivered that I missed, which I had to go out of my way to pick up from the post center.

And the @Work services?  I'm currently paying $200p/m for only 50GB and two lines, something which on a residential Genius plan would get me literally 10 times that.  I am not happy about this.  At the very least, are account managers in a position to offer additional data on current plans without charging extra to make them less uncompetitive?

A few days later - a few 0800 calls and a few more emails and still no DSL at my new place. I spoke with a Chorus techie who confirmed he could make the port change in 10mins. I spoke to Orcon and they won't let this happen unless I have my phone wit them. I'm currently with Slingshot (all eggs not in 1 basket as I said previously).

A few moments ago an Orcon techie I was speaking with about Chorus being able to make the change said I should leave them and go with another ISP. I wonder if the CEO would be pleased with that. Years of loyalty down the tube; I've been with them since inception.

The Orcon techie agreed that it is a simple matter to change the port and 10mins would do it - but they will not sanction this move. I believe this is blackmail - being forced to drop one Telco and join Orcon. Again, is this legal?

I just want my old service back - why is it so hard?

As Orcon no longer connects internet only accounts without a home line , you think that they will try fone slamming their BB only customers to home line without there agreement??

Bameron - you say :: We are currently reviewing the pricing for our Orcon@Home services.

Possible to give a rough idea when an announcement will be made on this?

I'm wondeirng what difference it makes to you? They would presumably still require your homeline with them and you are not prepared to "put all your eggs in one basket", so it shouldn't matter?

Hi guys,

I have no dates available to me as to when the new plans will be announced. I know that the team are currently reviewing the service features and pricing of our non-Genius residential plans and that we are getting closer to a release.

Cheers,

Cam
