ipsi: Already been answered in this thread - it won't work. You need both a touch2pay SIM and a 2 Degrees Galaxy S 3 to use your phone to pay for things, due to software that's only in the 2D S3. You can still use it to top up / view the balance of existing (new) snapper cards.

That's actually wrong - you do not need a 2degrees phone to pay for things. You only need a 2degrees snapper sim card and you can then use it. However, the snapper widget which reads the sim balance does not work, although you can look up your balance on the snapper website (or at a snapper retailer).

I've been using snapper on my Telecom branded phone with a 2degrees snapper sim for the last few days with no issues.

Huh, fair enough - I'm pretty sure I'd read otherwise, but there we go. Possibly I'm just going insane...

Thanks guys,

I've got myself a 2degrees Galaxy SIII now, and will get the replacement sim today. I've done some calculations and what I am actually paying for the phone is only $410 and I am getting a free 1GB everymonth, another 1GB every weekend, free bus passes during the weekend and 2160 minutes at the end of the period.

As I am already a $39 plan customer, I though to get the phone and up it to $89 for "the" 6 months and then go back to my plan. :) seems like a good plan

I am trying to get the snapper thing to go on my S3, I got the sim from Lambton Quay branch and I read on line (snapper site) "The Snapper applet has been loaded onto the Touch2Pay SIM..." (it isn't), I phoned 2deg help desk and the girl thought it was only the LG that was compatable, then said most any NFC phone (not Apple suckers) will work but may not function 100%, she then checked with her boss and re-iterated only the LG would work 100%. I said to her that the stores are touting it will work; so who is right abd who is wrong? Anyone?

Works 100% on my S3. If you have a touch to pay SIM, download the Snapper app off of Google Play, and it should work just fine. If it doesn't, then you'll need a new SIM, but if you just got your S3 and didn't previously have a micro SIM, then I don't imagine you'll need a new one.

The NFC requires a Java applet in the SIM card. This is what the FAQ is talking about. You need to download the Snapper App from the Google Play Market, if it's not already installed on your device.

You must have a 2degrees Samsung SIII to have the required API loaded for the Snapper app to work. A Samsung SIII from other networks won't have it.

I recommend you read this whole discussion again (all pages), including the FAQ.

Another handset has been added to the Touch2Pay:

Today sees the LG Optimus L7 join the Samsung Galaxy S III and the LG Optimus Net in the growing family of Touch2Pay handsets from 2degrees. With an impressive 4.3″ screen, this sleek, stylish and lightweight Android smartphone fits comfortably in your pocket or handbag and is perfect for taking your online life with you.

Buy one today from a 2degrees store in Wellington, download the Snapper Mobile app from Google Play and you?ll also be able to pay with this sweet phone on thousands of buses and taxis and in hundreds of Snapper retailers. Plus you?ll be able to check your real-time Snapper balance and top up on the go anytime, anywhere ? giving you convenience right at your fingertips.

If you want to find out more about this handset make sure you get down to your nearest 2degrees store in Wellington.

I hope the 2degrees folks give a heads up to their Call Centre staff, to avoid them saying this is not a supported handset (as it happened when people bought their Samsung Galaxy SIII from 2degrees at launch)

Something is coming soon regarding Touch2Pay SIM card distribution - I will update this soon!

There is another Touch2Pay device coming out from 2degrees now, the Huawei Ascend Y201 - and this one with Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).
