According to the 3 week timeline, it should be coming this week.. so fingers crossed... we should see the update notification within this week..

hopefully very very soon, my mate with galaxy 3 on vodafone got his jelly bean update a few days ago, so hopefully 2degrees is not far behind, it seems to be taking forever, can anyone confirm how long now? not just a guess but someone who actually knows? thanx in advance if someone can tell us.

Your mate is not using a Galaxy S3 purchased from Vodafone NZ then! Vodafone NZ has approved the update and we are waiting on Samsung Korea to push it out

so if your using an imported phone on the vodafone network, its different to, if you bought the phone from vodafone and are using it on their network, forgive my lack of knowledge, i dont see how it matters, your still using the vodafone settings and config, not wanting an argument john, so no offence intended. i dont work in the industry so im probably wrong.

So everyone is still waiting, not from their network provider, but on samsung to push out the updates, and it all depends where you bought the phone from??

Yes it's very different, You don't get a update just cause you are using a certain carriers SIM card

The whole android update process with carriers is a complete joke.

Apple can get their software through carrier testing and release an update to everyone on the same day.

Android devices take literally months, if ever. Why can carrier network tweaks not be separated from the core OS like it is in iOS (Where the carrier can update it's carrier settings independently)?

The carrier settings should also be able to be retrieved on demand depending on what network you are using. if you decide to change carriers, you are stuck with your original carriers customisations and network tweaks. Same with roaming.

This just enables carrier lock in and allows them to install their bloatware on devices.

Yeap, big black mark on Android due to this. Although I had heard that google supports their own devices better, and it is more like apple. This is one reason I like apple devices and IOS. But there is no perfect OS.

I've been using a 2degrees S3 on Three in the UK for 6 months and I still have to wait for the 2degrees update to come through from New Zealand. It's totally ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong, I am (now) a big Android fan, but previously being an iPhone owner, I just can't get my head around why the updates happen like this. Also the device manufacturers seem to hold off releasing software updates for non-carrier branded (generic) devices until the local carrier updates are in place. The only reason I can see for this is commercial agreement for the carriers have first dips on updates - which discourages people from buying vanilla devices.

I gave up a long time ago and went to paranoid android on my S3. Selling it now as I have upgraded to a Note 2. Again I use Paranoid Android rom which even supports the S Pen.
