Dangermouse: Can anyone confirm for me this should be working on iPhone/iPad?

It is intended to work but the team are working on the current less-than-ideal iPad experience.

I just keep getting an error on iPhone/iPad saying I've got 'insufficient bandwidth to play this programme'. Speedtest suggests I'm getting 7.2 Mbps over WiFi and the iplayer plays fine through the web browser on the desktop PC. Just trying to determine whether this is a problem with my own settings somewhere or a known issue with iOS devices? Do I continue to try and troubleshoot or sit tight and wait for a fix? C'mon Orcon, don't tease; I'm so tantalisingly close...!

2 things that are getting anoying

  1. There is no "play next episode" button!
  2. When hitting back after playing an hour episode the login seems to be timing out so the site has to log its self back in? very odd
  3. and if you were on the episode link it takes you back to the show page after doing its login thing

p.s. Thanks for Suits season 3

Are you commenting abut the iPlayer app? That is the BBC's, not ours....

So I wonder how it works?

Does this extra freedom in Newton's law suggest, come at a price of an opposite and equal reaction somewhere else? Perhaps adding some extra NAT'ing to the likes of Netflix servers? Or added filterting and caching therefore additions to latency etc...?

I wonder how long before Orcon TV ads are banned if they are set to help wriggle around legal loop-holes for getting their customers watching content not licensed for broadcast or streaming not agreed in writting by he copyright owner?

A lot of people gave Kim Dotcom flack about shady Megaupload in the past... but kiwi companies like Orcon help find shady ways to profit at the expense of finding some legal loop-holes and help remove revenue from those that work to create the content in the first place.

I find 'Global Modes' to be ethically wrong, and a reflection of the increase acceptance to virtually pirate content if you have a connection to the Internet.

Of course, that is just my personal opinion.

May as well not go to the warehouse either since they openly support parallel importing too.

I admire orcon for doing this, delivering what the internet should be which is a greater access to cheaper higher quality content,

I would like to see a day where the pointless inbetween middlemen are all eliminated from the media chain and I can buy direct from the authors. Orcon are just helping to remove my need to deal with the pointless local rights holders.

kiwirock: So I wonder how it works?
if you take for example the content you can now freely watch from BBC, we are possibly costing them traffic until it's cached to us, and then they may arguably lose revenue if there's no demand for playing the content over here through the usual channels if everyone has already watched it. This content however has already been paid for by the British tax payers.

For other directly paid content, who's to say everyone's monthly Netflix fee doesn't bring them more income than what broadcast tv would - assuming somehow they'd lose revenue seeing some of us have already watched it? Wonder if there's some info around on that.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Agreed that its a tricky one for BBC, but they will just have to adapt their business model if this becomes a problem for them.

Netflix - both in browser on my chromebook, and the Android app, keep on giving errors like

Whoops, something went wrong...

Internet Connection Problem

An Internet or home network connection problem is preventing playback. Please check your Internet connection and try again.

If the problem persists, please call Netflix Customer Support at 1-800-585-7265.

Restarting the app several times, or reloading the page in the browser, eventually causes the error to go away.

Does the "less than ideal ipad experience" include "you have insufficient bandwidth to play this programmer" because that is what I get.

Hi

Using Orcon, and signed up to Netflix a few days ago, and the first day everything was fine.  Now I am getting very inconsistent connection success using Apple TV and Netflix.  It hangs on "accessing Netflix", and restarting the Apple TV sometimes allows it to connect.  Other times it just comes up that Netflix is unavailable.  Sometimes I can get to the selection of a movie / show and it will hang then, after working fine up to then.

I've tried restarting the router and fibre box, and that worked once, then a few hours later it would hang again.  I've tried the ATV with ethernet and wireless, makes no difference.

Other online services work and on the PC Netflix is fine.

It seems to be an Apple TV issue and by the looks of things I'm not alone, so I don't think it's an Orcon block.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Matt

Dangermouse: Frustrating. Can't get BBC iplayer to work in iOS at all. Doesn't seem to be a problem with the connectivity or country recognition part but there's just nothing come down the wire. I've installed the iplayer app and also tried just through the browser, same issue both ways, no streaming :-(

Can anyone confirm for me this should be working on iPhone/iPad?

I get a constant message saying I don't have enough bandwidth when using iPlayer on iOS.  4oD is fine, along with most other services.  My bandwidth is plenty good enough so must be another reason.
