It would seem unusual that a company would launch suddenly without notice one day.

Surely the reason companies announce a date is for the hype that the countdown anticipation that it creates?

Well I have just put an order in on dse and put 4 sim cards into the cart so will see if I get a shipped email tomorrow or not..

SIGH...We dont know yet, 2degrees hasn't released there plans nor their termination rates (how much it costs another phone company to call/txt to 2degrees's network).

I see DSE have removed the detail from the main links...

Who's to say the 27th date wasn't just a default date generated on standard ERP detail?

Madcat11 what you pay from Xt/Telecom/Vodafone to 2degrees is determined by your plan on that network. It has nothing to do with 2degrees essentially, and, if that Russell Stanners is to be believed then wholesale termination rates have no effect on retail pricing (!!!).

It wouldn't happen but what if hypothetically 2degrees charged a $1/min termination fee?

How would VF/Telecom get around that when the majority of their plans are flat rate to either network?? Would they be able to change the agreed upon contract??

Finally DSE quite often have incorrect dates for products, at least when it comes to new release games (the incorrect system date comes and goes without stock arriving)

With all the 2Degrees hype, I'm guessing it will be within the 1st week of August. I'm sure they don't want to keep spending money on advertising etc for another 4 weeks, it must be costing them a budget load of cash. The sooner they start getting customers through the door the better.

You can only talk yourself for so long, people will start to lose interest. Geez weren't they suppose to launch 2 years ago? Come on guys, hit the go button.

I also noticed Dick Smith in Shirley Christchurch have setup a 2Degrees stand, nothing on it yet but launch can't be far away........

It's because the date won't be wrong, for release date items the date they are shown for incoming stock in the availability section is the date they will be receiving stock from the supplier and not the date they will be sent out, for example with a release date game the date may be before the actual release date which means it won't be sent until release even though they have got it in stock

You misunderstood my post.

I'm not talking a day or two, I'm talking incorrectly entered (or just arbritrary dates) which are then revised sometimes days after the initial set date has passed. Eg. for games releasing weeks after the originally entered date.

I think what Russell Stanners said was that termination rates do not currently have a direct effect on retail pricing (since net payment between companies is close to 0. Their real value is in discouraging competition, which he acknowledged would be likely to drive prices down).

I think you'll find that the commerce commission would get involved very quickly if termination rates were set at $1, and while they wasted time deciding what to do it might be possible for telecom and vodafone to raise their prices to the same level and put 2 degrees out of business.

Its an estimated date of delivery, therefore would have zero indictation of launch date. I'd imagine they already have thousands of sim packs if not phones in the distribution centre already, but obviously wont be sent out till launch.

Also i noticed there are 2Degrees stands in various DSE stores all saying Launching August, nothing more.

Just got the DSE order - no sims in it - the packing slip lists backordered till 30th for them.

The packing is amazingly inefficient. Its a massive box, with some bags of air in it, with a little paper bag in it with the 2 chips I ordered in it - makes farnell look positively sane.
