It's pure prepay. Once your pack(s) and/or prepay credit are used up, it stops - no debt collectors!

You mean when I buy the data stick from the 2D website or retail store the 30 days starts??

When you buy it.

You mean when I buy the data stick from the 2D website or retail store the 30 days starts??

It would be when you first connect it to the network.

If you have a national data pack, and you are planning on being in one of the 2D broadband zones - can you purchase the zone pack because its cheaper and use it first rather than your more expensive national plan?

Well, when you buy the national data pack, it only lasts for 30 days, so if you don't use it, you've paid for nothing..

Oh, I see.
I assume if you go through the proper data pack, then it'll go back to the national data pack, if it's within 30 days of you buying the national pack.

So im in Dunedin, not part of the special elite of New Zealand who have 2D towers in their back yard. I purchase a $6 50MB plan for my iPhone 4* on Monday. I start using the newly purchased data and then that weekend decide to go to Christchurch. I take my iPhone 4* and laptop and know from experience that I will use more than 50MB of data on my iPhone 4* and laptop (connected to the iPhone 4* - not sure if 2D do tethering) so I decide to purchase a 500MB Broadband Zone pack.

So you are saying that I would use my 50MB pack first, then my 500MB pack and once I got back to Dunedin I would have to either purchase a new 50MB pack or use 50c/MB data for the rest of the month..

* Does not have an iPhone 4 yet, is planning to get one in Singapore next month

Yes they allow tethering.

No he is saying the 500MB back will be used first as long as you are in Christchurch. When you go back to Dunedin it will switch to the 50MB pack, with the 500MB pack sitting unused until you are back in Christchurch or it expires.

I'm still not happy that the 50% of New Zealand that doesn't have their cellphone towers installed cannot receive cheaper data, though I understand why. Hope they role out more towers soon.

I do have another question. It may have been answered and I just missed it
What band is 2D's 3G operating on - 2100, 900 or (unlikely) 850

Quick Question - what model are the data sticks? I assume they are some kind of Huawei but I'm thinking using them with PFsense routers as backups in branch offices.

the packs are great value, but didn't 2 Degrees promise less complexity when they first launched? all that stuff about Da Vinci code pricing.

I don't really see how it is less complicated to have different data pricing for different geographical areas (something no other mobile carrier does) and different expiry dates for different packs, 30, 60, 90 days (something no other carrier does).

Whilst the geographical pricing is understandable from a business point of view, doesn't this, along with the differing expiry dates, just make things a whole lot more complicated for customers to understand?

To work out which plan you want (or which prepay carrier you want to use) you now not only need to predict your usage for the next 3 months to know if the longer expiry is better for you, you also need to predict how often you are likely to be spending outside the main areas.

this extra complexity is something 2Degrees promised they wouldn't do isn't it?
