pcmanrules: I gave up a long time ago and went to paranoid android on my S3. Selling it now as I have upgraded to a Note 2. Again I use Paranoid Android rom which even supports the S Pen.

Yeah I am on the verge of flashing my AU vanilla S3 with an official Samsung ROM from the UK. It will likely be identical to what they eventually release for my phone in AU as its not carrier specific. But I hate that it has to come to that.

At least the good think about flashing an official rom is that I don't have to root.

I don't understand why anyone who doesn't need the stock 2D firmware for Snapper\Touch2Pay would still be persisting with it? Wannamlite or SuperNexus JB ROM's are just so NICE :)

Apple can get their software through carrier testing and release an update to everyone on the same day.

Android devices take literally months, if ever. Why can carrier network tweaks not be separated from the core OS like it is in iOS (Where the carrier can update it's carrier settings independently)?

The carrier settings should also be able to be retrieved on demand depending on what network you are using. if you decide to change carriers, you are stuck with your original carriers customisations and network tweaks. Same with roaming.

This just enables carrier lock in and allows them to install their bloatware on devices.

Exactly! I found this most noticeable when we had two Samsung Galaxy S3's in the house. Mine, from overseas, was updated 6 months before the Telecom NZ phone.

My question to 2Degrees is - is the update being held up by testing for Snapper, even when a very great number of the phones were never Snapper-enabled in the first place?

so why does it take nz so long to get these updates?, is it because the carriers are too slow in their testing, or is it because samsung prioritise nz below others.

I feel like I've been waiting forever for any update for the 2degrees S3. I've put up with the bugs, unusable Smemo tasks, ever since I bought it in June. It's now the end of the year, and I haven't been able to update it a single time.

I'll never buy another phone from an NZ carrier again. Next time, I'm sticking with a Google flagship phone, like the Nexus, and just importing it. What an awful updating scheme.

My understanding is that both 2degrees and Vodafone have approved the upgrade and are now waiting for Samsung to deploy it. This is something that has also taken plenty of time in the past.

Not really correct Vodafone approved the update in 5 business working days of getting to test 4.1.x

It's interesting to see how 2Degrees have gone mum in their promised week...

Oh well.. cant actually complain till this week is over.. Hopefully it'd come through by end of this week (as per their earlier post 3 weeks earlier)

Not really correct Vodafone approved the update in 5 business working days of getting to test 4.1.x

We're in the 2Degrees forum, so my comment seems correct for here ;)
For Vodafone, it certainly looks like the lag is all on Samsung's part.

I live in the UK. I don't want/need the snapper thingy. I just want the latest operating system. Please release me. This is totally ridiculous.

Vodafone submitted their approved version couple of weeks back and samsung hasnt pushed that through yet.. and since there is no ETA on testing just yet on 2Degrees part, I suppose the ETA to the handsets from samsung would be far longer coz then there is 4.1.2 as well

Could I suggest 2Degrees start to test 4.1.2 and release that to samsung for pushing it to the handsets once tested (maybe in the few months to come).. coz there is no point in spending so much time on 4.1.1 when 4.1.2 is already out there and when that comes then another long journey of testing.. so just save that time now and seeing as 4.1.1 isnt coming anytime soon.. just drop it and get onto 4.1.2
