Hi guys. I'm experiencing problems accessing certain websites. Speedtest.net is one example. Certain sites seem to hang at certain points. I am having the same problem with multiple browsers and on multiple pc's on my home network so definitely not a local issue. It's even on both windows and linux so not an OS issue either. I can nslookup and tracert to these sites no problem. Again, some sites are a-ok while others are stalling halfway to loading. My routers DNS settings have not changed. I have flushed my DNS cache and restarted everything several times, but as I said I reckon it's happening outside my network.

Cheers

EDIT: I also tried without using my wireless router, just straight to the modem.

I have tried speedtest and feels pretty normal to me. If all you said is true, then I can only assume it's your router that need to have a closer look at. The payload of ping and traceroute are probably too small to show up. My friend once had a router that went half broken, everyone would seem normal, but just really really slow. I could ping it all day long too and it'd still be looking normal. Later only realised what was up when I tried to transfer backups across his local network, and it was slow so I assumed if one part of router's slightly buggered the whole thing's probably buggered too..

tl;dr Try a new router.

I'm having the exact same problem - speedtest, nzherald, even Orcon's website itself stall out and don't load fully. Maybe it's my router, but it'd be weird if both our routers were doing the exact same thing. Happening ever since there was a brief outage Friday night.

Yep cheers,

Just to be clear, I have a wireless access point for laptops, etc. And my desktop is wired into this, then obviously a connection from this wireless router to my Orcon modem/router. This config has been working fine for almost a year. I have changed everything around, resets, changed default dns servers from Orcon's to public. Actually googles at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. No change.

Dellick, yeah I guess a big coincidence. Gotta be some kind of dns issue somewhere. I have emailed Orcon, let's see what happens.

All the research I've done on this suggests that it's not uncommon, but all the fixes are only browser or OS related. Even some simple scaredy cat answers "You've got a virus", etc

Looks like Orcon have noticed this too. From their website:

Ah, good, looks like they know about it at least, hopefully it gets sorted out soon.
