Hi all I will be arriving in nz early august, i usually use 2 dreg when we come down there. This time we will be staying country for maybe a year so I am looking for the best deals on telecoms ect. I know this section is for 2 degrees but can anyone advise me on the best pre pay package in nz where i can get minutes and data. In the uk we can get for approx $30.00 300 mins, 3000 text and all you can eat data. I would not usually use more that 1gb i think. The other option is data only and use voip for call from phone to phone as we use iphone and htc desire running skype. Oh by the way we will be in northland, kerikeri area.

Based on what you are getting now then I would expect the 2D $39 plan is right for you. 220 minutes (120+100 bonus for life), 2500 text and 100MB of data with 1GB of national data included for the next 12 months. I don't know what 3G coverage 2D has in Kerikeri but if they don't have any then you would roam on Vodafone for no additional cost.

After 12 months the landscape would have changed again so the 1G of extra data might come another way.

Hi thanks for your reply would that be 1 gb of data per month or 1gb of data to use spread over the year? Is this on contract or as pay as you go?

BUT... that 1Gb of data is only of use to you if you are in a 2degrees broadband zone - it cannot be used roaming on Vodafone.

Check the coverage maps on the 2degrees website.

No it's national data so it works anywhere. This is only for plans >= $39.95 and for one year.

Then there is no option but the 1gb free per month is for NATIONAL data as explaned on the website. However the plan can be on a one month contract.

Exactly. This is the best equivalent plan to what he had in the uk and it hardly makes any difference if he goes pre paid our monthly if he is prepared to spend a constant sum each month.

Going on Pay Monthly may not be an option if you're just visiting the country as you may not pass the credit check requirements. But it's worth trying in the first instance as you don't have to commit to a term ? the same deal mentioned above is available on a month-to-month term.

It's prepay only. But you can buy weekly packages that last for 7 days and auto renew.
$8 base plan + $8 data plan gets you around 600mb (150mb/wk) and a comparable amount of minutes + txt, I can't remember the exact amounts but it is fairly decent and works out at a total cost of $32/month.

or add on another $4/week for 600mb for the week, probably too much though

I've had a look at website and it looks good. Calling other users foc is good, i wonder what the price of sending texts overseas costs. I think i'll run a dual sim phone with uk and nz chip.

FYI: skinny runs on the same network as telecom XT

Telecom uses 3G 850Mhz
Vodafone/2D use 3G 900Mhz

Although in the main centers you can use 3G 2100Mhz on Telecom XT and 3G 1800+ 3G 2100Mhz for Vodafone/2D
