Has anyone tried plugging in an ordinary / wired non-cordless DTMF phone into the side of the modem and can confirm if it works (e.g. with an RJ12 / modular plug to BT socket adapter)?

Or tried a non-DECT cordless phone and confirm it works?

Everyone I've spoken to at Orcon is adamant that it has to be a DECT cordless phone and nothing else.

Thanks

Pretty sure itll work... I only have cordless phones so cant test a "normal" phone out on mine but from what I know, by using the phone socket on the Genius, its just a pass through.

I can give it a try tonight if I remember to borrow a phone from work...

I can't see why it wouldn't work either.  I don't have a corded phone to try it out with either, BUT I have connected my computer fax/talk modem up to the Genius and that works fine, though Orcon will not support you with any troubles you may run into with it though.

Both a Genius Lite and Full has a port that a standard corded telephone can plug into and it will work with no issues.

Thanks, I don't want to doubt you or sound overly incredulous, I have heard it said that it should work but not heard from anyone who had actually tried it.
I take it that you have tried it?

Anyhow, assuming it works, this leads me to ask then:

1- What about a double adapter and two phones plugged into the side of the modem?
One of them could have a long extension to a phone into another room.

2- What would stop me actually re-wiring the internal sockets of the house (after separating from the incoming phone line of course) back into the modem phone socket!
How much 'loading' the modem's outlet can handle would have to be considered evidently.

Any feedback appreciated

Cheers

I have both a Lite and a Full on my desk and yes both have had a standard analogue phone in with no issues. Double adapter will work as well.

Speaking of loading, I guess it depends how many phones you would like to plug in, two shouldn't be an issue but think you would be hard press to find anyone who have tried more than two TBH.

Thank you!
Out of curiosity, are you using both the full and the lite at the same time? e.g. have you got a business setup with two incoming phone lines perhaps?

You'll need to look at the REN figures for the ATA and for each handset. Most ATA's are around 3, and modern phones these days under 1. This will be on the Telepermit site for each device, and many also feature it on the Telepermit sticker.

Thanks, that's good knowledgeable advice.
What qualifies as a 'modem phone'?
..is it the Genius modem or its handset or does it include a DECT cordless too?
