I signed up for Quickflix which claimed  that Orcon customers would be zero rated from May 1st
I then get an email from Orcon saying they could not show the zero rated stuff but not to worry they would fix it???
I am now approaching my data cap but have no idea how much of it is Quickflix and if I dont know how the heck can Orcon know.
I dont want to be presented with a huge bill for usage that included a lot of Quickflix watching.
Anyone else with  this problem and if so how to cope with it?

I have been planning to call Orcon because we used all our data within 2 weeks that normally lasts a whole month and I suspected that my Quickflix usage was not being zero rated.
I will call later today and see what they say.

Have you logged into your account through Orcon's website and clicked on your usage? It's broken down into download, upload and unmetered columns. It won't state what was unmetered, but if you know the days you've streamed movies you'll be able to see if that corresponds to the dates in the unmetered column, or is in the download column.

Don't think that is correct. I have checked the usage by logging in and there is no difference. The email from Orcon said that they could not show the Quickflix usage but that they knew what it would be and would fix it up at the invoice stage. But that leaves me no knowing what is chargeable data and what is Quickflix zero rated data

Don't forget zero rating is only from May 1st where as your billing period is April 23 to May 22 so the first 8 days of this billing period would not be zero rated. I have watched many movies since May 1st and I am guessing they are around 700Mb to 1Gb each but without a lot of work its hard to remember which days I watched what

Yeah I knew that and only used it a couple times before May 1st. I used it a lot after thou and that's when our usage shot up.

I just called them and they confirmed what you said in opening post that the Quickflix usage is adding to our usage meter but that it would be credited off at the end of the month and we would not be charged extra for it.

I pointed out that we don't know how much billable data we have actually used and he said as long as our usage was inline with past months we would not be charged if we go over our limit by a small amount (with non Quickflix usage).

Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments - my apologies for any confusion here.

Unfortunately there have been some hiccups enabling the unmetering capability for Quickflix from May 1 but we want to make sure we live up to our promise. So, to ensure you aren't out of pocket for your Quickflix usage we will credit back any overage charges that you may incur while streaming Quickflix.

Again, apologies for any confusion caused by this. We hope to have Quickflix properly unmetered ASAP!

Cheers,

Cam

I have been having a discussion with Orcon since early May over my usage with QuickFlix and I have heard all this, and I even have an email after my arguments saying I would be credited - come to the bill and no credit.
Just got off the phone and I am over the different stories I am receiving.

They cant even tell what is quickflix and what is not - I watched a two hour movie and it went straight to the chargable side, and all the can say is we can see streaming, peer to peer etc.

I watched about 5 movies worth about 8 hours of movies from the 1st may to 22 end of cycle and my unchargable reached 492MB but my chargable was 5 GB over, we usually only go over when school holidays are on, no excuse here everyone is at school.

What is more insulting is I spoke again to Orcon at 4.48 today the guy promised me an email back and I am still waiting.

Well he came back, his name is Victor and he listen and he left me feeling I had finally found someone who actually installed confidence that he would actually follow through with our quickflix problem. We streamed only quickflix tonight, screenshot by cell the data use and proved that it is on the chargeable side. And our uncharged sat around 116Mb for 90 min movie.

Orcon's usage meter hasn't been working for me since early May.

Any uppate on the Quickflix usage saga. I watched only Quickflix for last two nights and the usage stats online show the data going against charging so it does not appear that they have fixed the problem

Don't know how its managed, but it sucks that they don't have something setup like the Steam servers, all free and appears on your data usage in the Orcon Usage meter but under Uncharged or Unmetered.

It will be zero-rated properly very soon. (in fact it already is for some customers).

The reason is that Quickflix is served out of Akamai. The current (soon to be old) platform used to define O-Zone data could only do so based on IP.
We're now migrating to a platform that can do Layer7 DPI matching, which is how we'll uniquely zero-rate Quickflix traffic instead of the everything from the Akamai cluster.

So once this is completed you should see Quickflix data count towards your O-Zone usage column in your account.
