Hi there,

Are there any plans in the pipeline to introduce femtocells? We get excellent Vodafone signal at home and shocking 2degrees and Telecom XT signal and trying to make a call from one of our 2degrees phones is neigh on impossible. I live on a main road in central Auckland, so it's not like we're too rural or anything. A femtocell (ideally one not locked to a single broadband ISP) would suit us perfectly. Please tell me there is hope!

Sadly nope, 2d is a budget brand and this requires a large investment.

Femtocells need a broadband connection. To make it reliable it needs to be a broadband connection from the same provider as the cell company. This way they can ensure call quality and guarantee a level of support, and also security.
2deg dont sell broadband.
Vodafones femtocell requires a vodafone dsl connection.
So in short, no 2deg wont be offering femtocells soon. (my guess)

+1 for a 2Degrees femtocell. I live in the Waitakere Ranges and have no reception when inside our house. Our neighbours on Vodafone had the same issue, installed Vodafone's femtocell and now have great reception.

Everywhere else is great for 2Degrees, just not at home.

My place gets good 2D reception but my room doesn't get any as it's all brick /concrete walled.

yes, but so do all the regular cellphone towers, presumably. how do you make 2degrees phones roam on other cell towers?

Can you not do this to the femtocells?

You can hook up external antennas to boost signal indoors. Comes into a shroud around your phone via some kind of coax I guess?

If you don't have a 2degrees signal where you need it then perhaps 2degrees isn't the carrier for you. 2D coming into the market has spurred the other companies to drop their prices, so either way you get a reasonable deal.
