Hi,

I am trying to set up 2degrees mobile broadband on my mum's pc, and was hoping to end up with something similar to as if she was on regular broadband. My mum is not tech savvy and the computer is on xp. I installed the stick and then found the dial up connection that it created and set this up to connect automatically. What I would like to do would be to stop the 2degrees software from starting up automatically, as this takes extra time on my mum's slow pc, and also the 2degrees page takes up half the screen until it is minimised. I thought I would be smart and simply uninstall the 2degrees software since I could do everything I wanted using the dial up connection, but it the unistalled the drivers for the stick, so I had to install the software again.

Any suggestions on either how to stop the software from launching, or to uninstall it without losing the drivers for the stick

You may be able to turn off zero cd (or turn on, can't remember which. Just the opposite of what it is currently) to stop the computer from mounting it as a disc drive. It should see it as just an external modem.

I'm not sure how to do this as I'm pretty sure it varies between models, but if you google your modem's model number and zero cd you should find something.

You could also try searching for the device's usb drivers and install them manually from device manager. This would theoretically eliminate the need for the 2degrees software, however you will probably still be prompted to install it every time it is plugged in unless you change the zero cd settings.

Well, I have found a work around. There is a setting in the 2degrees software that allows it to minimise automatically. So now I have the dialup connection making the connection automatically at startup, and when the 2 degrees software launches a few seconds later, it minimises itself to the tray. Good enough for me.
