Is there such a thing as email portibility?
I am thinking of moving to snap but a deal breaker for me is the ability to keep my @xtra.co.nz email address so I do to have to tell everyone a new email address etc

You'll need to ask xtra if they have a small fee eg $5-10 a month to keep their email addresses.
You won't be able to port it to snap as its owned by xtra and MXs to their servers.

Although $5-10 is not really that small a fee, just for an email address. Best to setup a forward for a month or two to a domain based address, and email all your contacts that your email address has changed.

Get yourself a Gmail/Yahoo/personal domain for email, and use that. You may need to pay xtra for a while until you've let everyone know your new address.

Yeah there is no avoiding that with any ISP unfortunatly.

Check if you have a plan that offeres a free email address like on your mobile account or somthing similar. Otherwise yeah pay the small nominal fee.

You also get 10 free sub accounts with xtra.co.nz addresses which can be a good way of getting value for money.

Email porting isnt possible because of DNS limitations as xtra.co.nz own that domain and effectivly all emails associated through it.

Depends how desperate you are to keep the address.
I created my own domain and MX'd to google to have the best of both worlds :)

I kept an xtra email address for a couple of years at least. I ended that 3 years ago. Cost was $1.95 per month. After you change ISP you can still use xtra webmail.

My mates have the exact same problem but with vodafone. I can understand though I would hate to have to change my email address with everyone. I'd do it though, as I told them it's only going to get harder. Just sign up to one of the big ones before you change ISP and begin the transition.
