I've been told that tomorrow snap! are starting a new VDSL promotion; VDSL for only $25 on top of the standard broadband plans (down from $50) AND $160 off a Fritz!Box 7340 VDSL router!!

How can you say no to that!!!???

As you might expect with this kind of deal there is a 24 month contract ($150 fee to break the contract).

If I get this on 24month contract then move cities within the 24month contract, but stay with snap will I get charged a fee?

No we wont charge you if you move house, normal connection charges will of course apply if you need wiring at your new house! also if you move house and are unable to get VDSL2 we will allow you to continue your contract on ADSL.

Also you will be able to move to our UFB plans (when they are released) without penalty too.

You can also do a full line test from our website, put your address in and it will check the local DSLAM, and also your copper loop length to give you an idea of VDSL2 availability.

I am having my broadband and phone connection with Telecom, but I really want to say well done Snap!

It is a good deal to get VDSL2 for just $25 more a month, and a VDSL2 router for half price, nice.

Hi Ralph,

Could you please provide a direct link to this DSLAM check facility. I can't seem to find anywhere on your site to do a line check.
I know there used to be a "check to see if you can get VDSL2" link on the main page, but with the new VDSL2 offer released, it seems to have disappeared.
The only place to enter an address seems to be during an actual sign up.

Thanks, but that isn't quite the same as the "full line test from our website" that was intimated to be available by Ralph via the snap website.

I know I'm on a cabinet that says VDSL2 capable via the Chorus SAT, and I'm probably more than close enough, but I was just curious about the finer details of my line.

Seems fairly accurate for me with ADSL2, hopefully it's not accurate for me for VDSL tho as my line shows up as only getting 19megabit which is a bit disappointing :(

Mine says 18-20 but I'm getting 34meg sync so I think it's prob just a average from the area.

Depends on your line quality etc too.

I've actually been checking out the neighbour's connect speed estimates :D because I've thought for some time that I should be getting better ADSL2 speeds given that I'm only a couple of hundred metres away from the cabinet. The estimates do vary between properties and I read somewhere that apparently the estimate actually does a loop test... In any case I did an estimate on a house basically sitting beside the cabinet and it said 24mbit for the VDSL, so that can't be right unless there's something up with our cabinet!

McGee, did you have ADSL2 before you had VDSL where you are now? If so, what were your ADSL2 sync rates?

I'd be interested in seeing some Attenuation & S/N figures from people along side their VDSL estimates.

Mine are:
VDSL Estimate (MBit): 19.3/10.1
Line Attenuation (db): 8.0 dn, 3.5 up
SN Margin (db): 12.0 dn, 12.5 up

Unfortunately, it doesn't bring back any results for estimated sync rates for either ADSL2 or VDSL2 for me.
Just says "No information available"
It does confirm both ADSL2 (which I'm currently on) and VDSL2 are available, however.

@Ralph - what type of check does this do exactly? Is it an average based on other speeds connected to the same cabinet/exchange (as suggested above), or is it specific to your actual line.
Also, why am I getting no results? I can PM my address if you like.

FYI - my attainable sync rates/stats from my ADSL2+ modem are:

Down/Up
Attainable Line Rate 21736 Kbps 1288 Kbps
Noise Margin 12.1 dB 12.4 dB
Line Attenuation 6.0 dB 1.0 dB
Output Power 0.0 dBm 12.8 dBm

I think the estimates are lower / averaged so that it doesn't say eg 30mbit and if you only get 20mbit you can't go have a big rage about it. (guessing)

I had ADSL2 briefly here for about a week before upgrading it to VDSL from memory the sync was around the 12mbit mark.
It's currently 34mbit@19.5db stable.

Huh, interesting. That bodes well for my connection. I'm currently getting ~15mbit (snap tool estimates 16mbit on ADSL2). TBH I'd be absolutely stoked with 30mbit so here's hoping!

What was the 19.5db figure for? Do you have any line attenuation etc stats for your line currently?

Oh, BTW, apparently the fastest VDSL speeds available via Chorus is 50mbit down, 10mbit up. I have seen someone mention 70mbit, but I'm not sure how they would have got that.
