Posted the same topic in the vodafone forum but thought I may get some different view points here as well...

I have been trying to decide whether or not to ditch vodafone and go to 2 degrees, I pretty much reached the tipping point when I went to upgrade my old $60 smart plan that is 2 weeks from being out of contract to a $90 smart data plan to get the S3 only to be told they want $150 bucks to cancel my current plan... which is a rip off, I always thought upgrading plans resulted in the cancellation fee being waived... Anyway has anyone on here had experience with both networks and noticed any advantages or disadvantages or any advice on which way to go?

Thanks

If I read this correctly, in 2 weeks you could stay with VF for no cancellation fee... Is that right?

Yes the early resign fee would be waived, Do you have the details of the person / store that advised you they would not be?

I would like to track them down and take this further!

Hi Golfpunk111
its all about horses for courses.... you mentioned you are on the smart $60 plan, but what do you actually want in terms of minutes, sms, data, etc. where do you live or travel often? all of these will have an impact on the best carrier and plan for you.

if you post more information i am sure people will be able to give you some good advice

Any posts are personal comments and not that of my employer

I've switched (in the mobile broadband zone) and the only things I've noticed are;

- bills half the previous size
- twice the minutes
- 10 times the data
- data sharing (this rocks)
- a call centre that answers phones (accidently brought a add-on refunded in 10minutes)

So in short I've enjoyed my switch. No call drops or quality less than Vodafone (have used all 220 minutes last 2 months)

The choice of provider is down to the customer at the end of the day! Reading this just makes me wild and I don't even work in sales,

Correct I could wait two weeks which normally wouldn't be a problem but 1) my current phone is having issues and is unreliable and 2) the principle of it is just ridiculous why wouldn't they want to resign a customer on a more expensive plan for another 2 years when they are only 2 weeks away from ending their contract anyway?

John - Thanks, It was the VF Online store, don't think there was a name on the emails but can PM you the order number if that's helpful at all?

Well I'm just after a reasonable amount of everything, the plans I have been looking at all include at least around 200mins, 2500 texts and 1gb of data and are approx $90. The info I was after was more around the service/coverage and customer service. Sorry should have been more specific.

Take into account where you live, if you live in a 2degrees mobile broadband zone they're good value. Outside it not so sure, but that may have changed since I looked.

Except a few hiccups and weirdness. They always text you about three times around payment, even if you do direct debit. Sometimes (rarely) you get multiple copies of txt. Txt isn't as reliable as vodafone, but it's 99% reliable and has been fine lately. Overall I'm happy with 2deg.

220 mins 2500 texts and 1 GB of data would be $39 on 2 degrees, once you include the bonuses. I have found the customer service and coverage fine, but this may vary depending on where you are. I would suggest getting a prepay sim and checking out the coverage in the places you are most often before making the switch.

Remember, the 1GB bonus data for 2 years is national data. You can get the Galaxy S3 free on the $89 a month plan 2yr plan with 360 minutes + 100 bonus minutes for life, 2500 txts and 1.25GB national data.

I've never regretted moving to 2Degrees and left VF after 14 years because of what I perceived as a culture of greed, inflexibility, and complexity. It's only since 2D have appeared on the scene that they appear to be making an effort. Coverage and data speed have been great in-zone, with seamless roaming to VF when out of zone.
