Took mum down to hamilton over the weekend, and her SGS2 basically lost connectivity and popped up a little thing about no data because it was roaming.

Put the tick in the allow data roaming box but still no data happened. This was going down the otrahonga road on the way to teawamutu. At some stages it showed some bars but no data happened

Getting into hamilton area, tried forcing it back onto 2degrees and was just getting messages about the sim not registering on the network. Airplane mode and back didnt help, and I got the message about not registering on the network after a power cycle. After a few mins it did register on the network and get data again.

Then later on when just out of hamilton on cambridge road, it did the thing again with bars but no data. This was on bollard road which is showing as being in the 2degrees mobile broadband area.

So anyway, is this a problem that has a solution. If I am not there to fiddle with menus to try and change network etc to get data working again, its pretty hopeless.

The plan its on is the prepay one with the 300 megs of national data for $19 so it should have just worked even when roaming (if that box was ticked which it is now)

Hi, was it was set to pick up 2G & 3G (GSM & WCDMA), it seems it may have been set to 3G only and picked up the 2100Mhz signal when you got near to the Tron..

Turning on Data roaming should connect you if the signal is strong enough.

It was on 2g and 3g as mum spends quite a bit of time at places in auckland where there is no 3g signal.

The worrying thing was being told that the registration didnt happen when choosing 2degrees when it was in a coverage area.

There could be some ping-ponging going on between our towers and our roaming network. Please can you give me the spot as close as possible to where it happened, the time, date and her # I'll check.

Cheers

First noticed it when I went to use google maps on her phone as my HTC had run flat. I think it was the cnr of te awamutu meadways rd and ryburn rd. - looks about right from the aerial photos in maps but its really hard to tell.

The cousins place where it was not connecting but had bars is at #3 bollard road,

Bollard Road is not a strong signal area where you'll probably only get 2G. If possible, can you pop the SIM in another phone, 2G and 3G compatible, to see if it does it on the other device and let me know if the 'registration failed' message appears on the other device.

Thanks
