I've noticed that if I switch to 2Degrees on a $39/month plan and get the SGS3 (which I'd just sell and keep what I have, should be able to break even) - then for $1 less a month than the current Telecom plan, I'm getting 70 more minutes, 2200 more texts, and 600MB more data.

This seems too good to be true (which is a sad indictment on the state of data allowances on NZ plans, but I digress) - what's the catch other than the 2 year contract?

Presumably the data is "local" only and doesn't apply if I'm roaming on VF? I can't find anything stating what "type" of data this includes.

Telecom aren't offering anywhere _near_ as good a deal as this, so might be time to jump ship methinks.

Nope, its a great deal. 1GB is national (anywhere) and the only catch is a maximum break fee of $300 if you cancel early! But as you get $250 off a phone that's fair enough.

What are you using that you'd prefer it over a sgs III?

Galaxy Note. I've got massive hands and even an SGS3 is too "small" for me to be able to type on unless I do so incredibly slowly. Plus I had a play with one and they feel like a cheap chinese knock-off, and that's even in comparison to the Note which hardly has the most amazing build quality.

Plus at this stage, I'd rather have the money.

You actually get more minutes that you think cos the $39 plan includes 100 bonus minutes ?for life?, although they don?t roll over.

The only 'catch' with the 2D plan is that the 1GB is only a promotional offer that lasts for 24 months. At the end of 24 months it drops off and you only get 100MB from then on.

You can, of course, re-sign or switch and probably get some other offer at that point, but it?s just something to watch out for. If you forget to do that and just let your plan roll over you could get stung for a few months of casual data at 50c/MB without realising if you don?t keep a close eye on your usage, whoich could end up costs you a hell of a lot.
With the Telecom plan although you only get 500MB, that lasts until you switch plans, so you won;t need to worry about getting accidental bills at the end of your contract.
Only you can really assess whether that is somethoing important to you or not.

Of course price should never be the only concern. The other aspects are less quantifiable but still meaningful. For example: Will you get better customer service? Better network speeds? That is down to personal experience and can?t be proven one way or the other.

If you've already got a handset why not just get the no term contract? Why bother locking yourself into a 24 month contract when you still get the same perks. Avoid the hassle of having to sell the sg3

Yeah, the first page I went to didn't mention the 1GB data on it, when I looked again via a slightly different link it had it there so I'd assumed it was tied into the contract term.

All this goodness with no contract seems a bit of a no-brainer really, I will have to investigate what 2D reception is like at home.
