Hi, I bought a new Cisco EA3500 Router to increase wifi speeds and distance around the house. I use an xbox360 for live gaming and I was always losing connection even with a wired connection. I also have a ipad3 and a iPhone 4s so want the very best me did media and gaming. I hoped the gigabyte ports and 350-450 Mbps would improve things with my Cisco EA3500.
But.. I don't seem to be able to connect through my telecom modem nor a new netgear modem I just purchased to solve the problem!
There seems to be no Internet getting to my Cisco, I was supposed to seeing flashing lights but nothing!
Help Please?

You're best bet is to start from scratch and buy suitable hardware. The EA3500 can't be hooked up to the Thomson in an ideal setup without introducing double NAT. You need to use a DSL modem in front on the EA3500 and the Netgear won't be suitable either unless it supports half bridge mode.

My recommendation would be to go and buy an all in one modem/router or purchase a Draytek Vigor 120 to act as your DSL modem. This does bridge mode / PPPoA to PPPoE conversion allowing the EA3500 to be plugged in behind it.

If I recall correctly...

At the bottom of the home networking page in the Thomson admin ui is "Assign public IP address to a device.".

The speedtouch then handles the authentication but hands the public IP to the device (router or other device) that you assign, this mode is still basically double NAT but with an "automatic" DMZ - it should work ok for the average user wanting to connect a router behind the Thomson.

Also you will need to make sure the Cisco is using a different LAN network range, eg: if the Thomson is using 192.168.1.x configure the Cisco to use 192.168.2.x for LAN and DHCP server.

WAN in the Cisco should be obtain automatically and network cable should be from Thomson LAN port to Cisco WAN port.

If you are a heavy gamer or streaming/vpn sort of geek I would recommend replacing the Thomson with the Draytek Vigor 120 that sbiddle mentions.
