Hey Guys,

Does anybody know where the iTunes movies rentals come from?

Wondering if they stream from U.S or if there is a CDN in NZ locally?

I am having issues streaming movies via my VDSL2 connection (sometimes taking 2 hours to "pre-load" a film) or constantly stopping throughout to re-buffer

Speedtest results show 40mb down/10mb up to local auckland nodes . connection is stable with an uptime of 15 days so far

Last time I checked it's coming from Akamai in California / USA.
I also heard that Apple has moved their content from Akamai to their new Datacenters in the states.
I don't really want to hire another movie to test this theory again tho :P

Could explain the performance issues if it's coming over international transit ?

It should be local. What I've noticed is that a new release takes a few more minutes to download than a recent release - almost like I am the first one to pull it down to the local caches...

With my ISP (not Snap) a full movie takes about 10 minutes to download for me, but a brand new release sometimes takes 45 minutes.

Could you perhaps do a screenie of where the content is coming from if you do it on a windows box ?

From what I've been told there isn't any CDNs left in NZ that host this content unless it's TCL exclusive.

Hmmm. Could be then, since I am on TCL. Next time we get a movie will try and get a screenshot of connections.

What dns servers are you using?  I was using Googles and could not stream any i-tunes movies, would take hours before they were ready to play on a Apple TV.  Changed the dns servers and all my problems disappeared.

Using third party DNS is bad practice in New Zealand. You will get wrong CDN and caches, causing much disturbance in the force...

I am using Snap's main DNS Server address,

I even manually put it into the AppleTV 3 setup
