For anyone else that comes across this frustrating issue.

When switching the FritzBox 7340 back to adsl from vdsl there is a bug where if it was originally setup with vdsl it will not work when changing the settings back.

So you can get all the settings right, and it shows the connection to the local exchange and the line rate etc, but the internet will not work at all.

Cycling the settings does not work.

The solution (from snap) is to Factory Reset the modem and start from scratch with ADSL settings.

This will be because VDSL is a PPPoE and runs over VLAN 10 where as ADSL is PPPoA without any VLANS and is ATM based.

This will be why it wouldn't have been backwards compatible same as you couldn't use ADSL settings to go upto VDSL.

Maybe i wasn't clear in my first post, i actually changed those settings to the correct ADSL ones, but it would not work.

Only after doing a factory reset then applying the ADSL settings again would it work, according to snap its a known issue with the modems.
