I've seen some past threads about people getting billed because they didn't give proper notice when leaving, so I thought I'd ask here. My understanding is that 30 days notice is required and I couldn't find anything on my account page about whether I was still in contract or not.

How can I tell when is the end of my contract period?
I couldn't find it on my bill, but I checked my old e-mails.

Order confirmation e-mail: Fri 22/07/2011 2:38 p.m.
-- "Thanks for choosing us! We’ve got your order for Orcon @ Home and we’re working on it."
Orcon Order Update e-mail: Fri 29/07/2011 2:15 p.m.
-- "We've made the plan changes that you asked for."

The contract for Orcon@Home is 12 months, so assuming I give proper notice, is the end of my contract, 22/07/2012 (12 months after Orcon accepted my order), or 29/07/2012 (12 months after they made the changes), or perhaps some other date?

I assume the end date does not have to be on a full number of billing cycles, and can I make my leaving date part way through a billing cycle (as long as I have given proper notice)?

I believe you have to give them at least 30 days notice. So if you contact them, say 10 months into the contract, to cancel it at exactly 12 months to the day, and make sure you switch to your new ISP before that date , that should be OK, But you should contact them to hear what they say.

Yes you can go away in part billing cycle as long as u have given a 30 day notice in advance. Your last bill will include advance payment of only the last part remaining.
e.g. I left Orcon on 30th June, so they billed me for 1 week and the invoice was generated on 23rd June.

With regards to the date till you are committed, just drop an email to support@orcon and they would advise by checking your account. I did this and got a reply in a day or so.

In my case, it was 1 year from the date my services got activated - not from my order/sign up over phone date

Hope that helps.

Switch before due date? wouldn't he pay ETC to Orcon if  switched before the last day!

That's why they would need to check ISP, but as long as the ISP gets paid for the full 12 months, I don't know why they would? Otherwise any ISP could like their fees on the 13th month when you are out of contract, and you would have to pay at least part of that while it was being switched.

Thanks for the feedback. I will check via support@orcon when I get a bit closer to deciding the best option.
