Currently I am using the $60 Unlimited data plan, which I am happy as a student in Palmy. But sometime internet speed as slow as the dial-up speed, not sure how this happen?

Got some screenshot speed test.

When you say "$60 unlimited plan" does that mean that you don't have your phone with Slingshot?

I'm in Palmerston North and get this:

Definately an issue going on.

Appreciating SS unlimited is shaped, im getting far lower speeds than usual from this plan in Chch - similar speeds to the OP (despite DSL sync of 18meg) and pings of 600-1100ms to Auckland.

Please dont reply with 'thats what you get for buying a cheap service', its not helpful for anyone. If there is an issue with your internet it is useful to know that others are experiencing it, rather than a problem with your setup or line

No, I have my phone with slingshot. Your internet speed is much better than mineCry

Theres something wrong with your connection alright, Might want to give the help desk a call.
Check for faulty filters this usually happens with faulty filters.

One must note: Shaping stops latency however increases packet loss.

The problem cleared itself up later that night (for me at least), although i didnt see any mention of a fault on their website.

I think its safe to say that performance degradation to that degree is a fault, shaping does do weird things, but 1000ms latency is just silly, and not par for the course that is SS unlimited

Palmy here. I haven't noticed any difference in the last day or so. Will do a speedtest tonight when I get home from work and let you know.

I'm having speed and disconnect issues in Palmy too - I often do as I am pretty sure the line from street to house is stuffed :( Issue being this is a rental and I'm not paying to have it rewired.

However today I have probably had 30+ disconnects compared to one or two a day.

The above link is the best speedtest from today. Earlier is was 0.5 down.

As a side note - anyone want to run me a temp line from post to my office window?

Shaping shouldn't cause it to be that low.

If it hasn't come right PM me with your account number and I'll look into it.

Cheers,
Warren

Still having massive latency issues here on Christchurch DSL. Speedtests to Auckland are regularly giving pings >500ms. This has been occurring in peak times over the past few nights.

Figured that it was good time to give these traceroute thingys a shot. This one is to the slingshot website, and is pretty typical, with ~1000ms on the second hop. The address in the second hop is the Slingshot default gateway (according to my router). Does the latency to this indicate congestion in the Chorus handover?

traceroute to 119.224.141.132 (119.224.141.132), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets
1 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 1.259 ms 0.637 ms 0.633 ms
2 202.180.81.26 (202.180.81.26) 1421.208 ms 1450.070 ms 1414.399 ms
3 p69.pool-82.callplus.net.nz (202.180.82.69) 1400.761 ms 1488.352 ms 1479.235 ms

FWIW, I'm having variable connection speeds and disconnects in Palmerston North too. I'm not on Slingshot but the timing of the issues I'm having coincides with the reports here so perhaps there's something going on with the Palmy exchanges?

Are you in the wop wops? hehehe

Often rural connections a feed of Conklins that have a 8mbit backhaul shared between all users on that exchange.
And a few (very few so if you are your unlucky) urban exchanges are congested and have not been upgraded to an ISAM.

Nope, I'm on the main city exchange. It just seems coincidental that people in Palmy, on two different ISP's, are experiencing the same problems. Too much of a coincidence if you ask me.
