Does anyone know how to interpret the data displayed on the Spectrum page of the FritzBox 7340.

Hi Allan

What would you like to know?

You have a fair bit of signal loss. The downstream band 2 is barely being used due to signal loss.

What is your line Attenuation and length ?

Also how have you set up your wiring to the Fritzbox

I have just marked the basics of the graph.

Hope that helps :)

Hmm, might steal that for the VDSL Tuning thread :)

EDIT: Actually, if you don't mind mate, could you re-do that spectrum illustration using your own spectrum graph?  Your line stats are textbook and you are on a 17a profile so that will be good for illustrative purposes. :)

Either that or point me to an existing one already on GZ (can't find it ATM) and I'll label it up.

Napster: What would you like to know?

How do you know where DSL1, DSL2 and  VDSL 8b is mapped?

What should the perfect looking chart look like?

What is DS Band 1, US Band 1 DS Band2?

What is the Pilot reference?

Napster,

Thank-you for your observation about signal loss.  My installation has been in place for 9 days now.  This is what it looked like on Day 1. The DSL Information altered on Day 2 and for the remaining 8 days has not changed at all.

I have CAT6 cable from the ETP to the telephone jack on the wall.  From the telephone jack to the Fritzbox I am using the supplied lead that came with the modem.

I spoke to Snap a couple of days ago about the disappointing throughput speeds and they said they would do a line check.  I am still waiting for the results of that test?

Any advice you have will be well received!

Here are the specification for each technology.

ADSL1   upto 1.1MHz /256 Carriers
ADSL2+ upto 2.2MHz /512 Carriers
VDSL2   upto 8.8MHz /2048 Carriers 8b Band Plan
VDSL2   upto 17.6Mhz /4096 Carriers 17a Band Plan

You can tell what Band is being used by looking at the Spectrum graph. The blue area is your bit loading. All the bits added together = your sync rate.

You can see that this is extending past 2.2Mhz and also has a 2nd Band which falls under the VDSL2 specifications.

VDSL has multiple Downstream and Upstream Bands. They use this method to optimize both Downstream and Upstream speeds.
Signal loss is much greater at higher frequency's and is also affected by increased power on longer lines.

Not sure on the  Pilot Reference tone sorry.

From the Fritz!box help for that page:
The red marking indicates the pilot tone which is used to synchronize the DSL-Controller with the exchange.

Awesome stuff dude!  Added to the VDSL Performance thread :)
